Hello Everyone

An updated patch is now available for Strategic Command. This includes both PBEM and gameplay fixes and amendments

It is available from the members area :
https://www.matrixgames.com/members/pri ... sp?gid=504

And the public area :
https://www.matrixgames.com/members/pub ... sp?gid=504

Single player save games from v1.03.01 should be compatible with this beta version.
As usual please do let us know in this beta forum what you think of these, especially the surprise and naval movement amendments

regards
Ben Wilkins

v1.03.01
- fixed a swap unit error that would lead to a CTD for when a player right clicks instead of left clicks on the final unit selection (BPINisBACK).
- fixed a unit move and attack combination error that would sometimes lead to units not losing their applicable action points when not playing with undo moves (BPINisBACK).
- fixed a unit movement error that would not update all the applicable enemy hexes to the control of the new owner when not playing with undo moves (xwormwood).
- fixed/amended several in game research descriptive texts when mouse hovering over a category in the RESEARCH screen.
- added the UPGRADE, REINFORCE, and SLEEP tools to the operational button area of the game.
- land units that are surprised by a hidden enemy unit will no longer be reduced to 0 action points, remaining action points (including any additional deductions for the hidden unit's zone of control) will now apply.
- naval units that are surprised by a hidden enemy unit will no longer be reduced to 0 action points, remaining action points divided by 5 will now apply with the following exceptions:
- naval units in cruise mode will still be reduced to 0 action points.
- Subs in Silent mode will be reduced to remaining action points divided by 2.
- naval units that have engaged in combat will now have their action points reduced to remaining action points divided by 2.
- naval units can now pass through enemy naval units but may suffer a 50% chance of a 1 strength point loss for doing so.
- air units now have a maximum entrenchment of only 1 regardless of underlying terrain or resource.
- saving games once the game is over is no longer disabled for non PBEM++ games.
- German Level-1 Fighter changed to a BF 109 (added yellow nose cone) from a FW 190.

CAMPAIGNS (AI)
- fixed an issue regarding FLEET movements and not being properly surprised by hidden enemy naval units.

They appear to both link to the same page. The 'Public' link is not the same as it used to be, for me that was the easy one that always worked [no logon necessary as I am already logged in to view the Forums].

Still broken on my end. Connections either time out or won't connect depending on the method I use.[&:]

Thank you for the changes.

I have some PBEM going on but would like to hear how the naval changes work.

Finally worked by connecting to the ftp site directly. Using the link it kept timing out.

I haven't tried PBEM yet, but figured I would try it after updating to the latest patch. It looks like I am well past version v1.01.04 but I can not play. Is this other's experience with v1.03.01 Beta?

No, but I found another bug. Happens every time I try to land paras.

FAILED(animate_tile_control_update_after_land_unit_move): Segmentation violation

Well I can play PBEM if I update to 1.03 but not if I update to v1.03.01 Beta, so I guess I'll wait for an official patch.

Crispy,

I am getting the same error message when I try to access the PBEM++ server. A bug, I guess.

The server does not work. No PBEM avail.

I tried a quick H-H vs. myself and the changes do make it harder to hit and run. If the ports are not real near, you will not be able to get back to them after attacking. Fought a North sea Jutland area battle. British went out and Germans came out and fought a bit and tried to get back. The Germans were able to get back to safety but did not destroy a bunch of British ships as before. There was an exchange with losses on both ides which seemed "normal". Units coming into contact can fight or move away. Also you can move through units but suffer some losses. I like the changes so far and thank you. Only a few games vs another human will flesh out any other issues with naval combat. Did not do a lot of Uboat but so far it's much better IMHO.

Will this make the RN invincible? Will certainly make the Kriegsmarine and Regia Marina think about hit and run and coming out.

Is the server issue to be fixed shortly?

Beta versions don't work on the server. Only official updates will work, so we need to wait for this beta to become official to use it for PBEM++.

The PBEM++ Beta server version number issue has been corrected (this was an error on the server side) and you should now at least be able to start and play PBEM++ games with the latest SC3 Beta.

Please let us know if not,
Hubert

A few seconds after I am in the server it kicks me out. A msg flashes but I do not have time to see it.

There are old games on it one that has never started, I try to resign but it closes. Same if I try to host.

I've seen a naval retreat of enemy units through his own units and take losses. Can you check the code? Retreats through own units should not trigger the 1 strength point loss.

A bit of a hack and slap job below, but I was so excited to get these features, this will save a TON of clicking !

I just noticed that those new buttons activate sometimes when I don't want them to. I payed more attention and it happens, for example, when I zoom all the way out, then click on Tobruk to zoom there. I'm not double clicking or slow clicking or drag clicking or anything like that. Just a simple click will activate one of those new buttons [repeatable].

Just back from holiday.
Tried to continue my game, was instructed to upgrade on server to
version 1.03.01, from 1.01.04.
Can now locate game on server, but cannot play.
Server message "File read problem". Error message appears. (Error 02).
Anybody have advice on how to proceed...
We been battling this game for about a month, and would like to carry on!
