In a PBEM as Allied I took the naval bomber in Iceland .
Now I want to operate it from Iceland to UK but it doesn't work .
I have the necessary MPP, supply is 5 but when I select operate, it displays only locations in Iceland .
Is this a bug or am I missing Something ?

Yes you are missing something ! Page 177 says:
Coastal Command deploys a Maritime Patrol
at Reykjavik in Iceland. This unit is in Icelandic
service and cannot be Operated for use elsewhere.

OK, thanks. So it is just useless .

Pretty much useless, I agree. In my experience, the weather in the North Atlantic seldom allows the Allied player to use the air unit based in Reykjavik to any effect.

Against the computer, the U-Boats won't hang around Iceland too long, especially when the weather clears. So, its not completely useless. I have also placed a Maritime Bomber in Greenland, and it gets little use also. But like I said, the computer will gravitate toward unpatrolled areas, so as the game moves along they help.

Interesting. I never noticed that behavior by the AI, but then I wasn't really paying attention. Not sure the Iceland air unit will be very useful against a human, but in clear weather I suppose the recon of all those hexes the unit passes over during two sorties could be useful on occasion. But kinda pricey at 100 MPPs

Complete waste of MPP you wanted to say
1) No sane U boat will raid around Iceland .
2) Even if you had an extraordinary luck to have a) good weather, b) a passing sub , c) right recon direction that detects it then what ?
The time some destroyers arrive, the sub is on the other side of Atlantic ...

Well, I might buy the Iceland air patrol for 50 MPP, even with all the disadvantages...OK maybe 30 MPP

The Maritime Bombers do have an automatic naval spotting range that rises with Long Range Aircraft research, so they can start with this at 2 and it can increase to 12 hexes, therefore the investment effectively leads to your knowing that the area is free of Axis naval units, excepting Subs in Silent mode.

Hi Bill, thanks for the info. I was not aware that Maritime Bombers could be upgraded to have such a vast spotting range. This does raise the value of the Iceland Air Patrol.
