Help installing graphics mod

Hello all!
cant stop playing TOAW 3 in anticipation of 4 but find myself wanting nicer graphics, every time I try to follow the instructions for the SPQR mod, just extracting the files into the alt graphics folder, and then it completely screws up the graphics. Could anyone help me figure out how get/set up the board game mod? wargamer on a board normally, thanks!
