The Mission: US and GE teams consisting of Team Leader squads and ten individual snipers must defend five of their own Victory Hexes, while at the same time take over and keep the enemy's five Victory Hexes. The terrain is varied, there is plenty of cover, but large open areas as well. The Victory Hexes all score points for each turn held, so capturing one, only to have it retaken again won't do you much good. You have 30 turns to play and the visibility is set at 19, 4 hexes beyond rifle range. Good luck, and have fun!*

Designer Notes: This scenario can be played with C&C on or off. I suggest you also use limited ammo. An interesting problem came up in developing this scenario that I had to work around... Snipers can't capture VH's! The work-around I came up for this was to use renamed, and requipped, forward observers (reduced to single men) as snipers. However, a sniper's normal rate of fire (in SP:WAW) is about 2 shots per turn, with good accuracy. Because these are renamed FO's though, their rate of fire is much higher, between 5 and 6 shots per turn, but their accuracy is lower. I've adjusted what I can using the editor, but the editor only allows adjusting the fire control setting and not the range finder setting. If anyone has suggestions for fixing this drop me an e-mail or a note in the Matrix Game Forums.*

This is great! Similar to (largely unimplemented) wacky ideas I've had myself.

I played it hotseat and the Germans got a "draw" with about a 4:1 points ratio and the US completely wiped out.

This is obviously not serious simulation stuff. More a party type game. Sniper fire seems a real lottery as to casualties regardless of the hit chance displayed. Fun though :)

You can change the RoF of a unit using the Chlanda Scenario Editor.

I wonder how it would play with units other than snipers ...

Bernie - thank you for a fun and simple scenario after a rotten week at work. It was great.

Yes, it is strictly intended as a "fun" scenario and not anything serious. I had originally meant to include scoring guidelines in the text, since the SP:WAW engine doesn't handle that very well in this scenario. I think it's just a simple win/lose. If you have more points, you win, even if it's a single point.

I appreciate the info on the Chlanda Scenario Editor, but three attempts at using it crashed my 'puter three times, so I gave up on it.

Here's a slightly updated version of the scenario.

The snipers now only fire 1-2 rounds per turn, but with greater accuracy. The team leaders now have different weapons with longer range.
