I have an example in a bitter end campaign v1.10beta of 2.(F)/33 arriving on turn 3 and already auto swapping from Bf 110C-5 to Fi156C.

But in the manual it says

v1.05.53 - January 4, 2012
Arriving air groups won't have their planes swapped/upgraded on their turn of arrival. This allows the player time to set the air groups to Manual upgrade.

Is this a bug, have I misunderstood the feature or has this been reverted?

Maybe this was reverted.

I have seen this happen too in v1.10beta. There is no mention of a reversion in the updated manual etc. So I think it is a bug.

Seems to have been a bug fixed in v1.11 and also changed ref: Public Beta v1.11.00 is Now Available!

Edit: Clarified on thread there were no changes from v1.10beta to v1.11beta - it is just a bug fix
