scroll lag - problem resolved for those with Windows Defender

Just got the game. Installed on my gaming laptop, Nvidia 1060, I7 processor, 16 gig memory.

Map scroll is jerky and extremely slow, pretty much unplayable.

I have gone into the Nvidia Control Panel to make sure the 'high performance GPU' is set for the game.

I have tried various options settings, for letting the game use more or less memory, load up textures at startup, etc., to no apparent effect.

Other Ageod games like Wars of Napoleon and Pride of Nations have no scrolling problems.

Please advise if there is something I can do to get proper map scrolling.

while i'm guessing you already know this tbh, i'll ask anyway

Could you please attach a DxDiag report file to your message / reply?

Please attach a DxDiag report fie.
How to get a DxDiag report file:

1. Click on "START" (on Windows 8/10 press “Windows key” and the “R” key at the same time)
2. Click "run" (skip this step on Windows 8/10)
3. Type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. Check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. Click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice
6. Attach the file to your message
7, if your new and can't / don't have permission etc, then copy paste into a reply
add the exe of the game to your Anti Virus and firewall program, to make sure check the logs of these to see if it was one if any of them was to blame.

That usually means a 3rd party program, like an Internet security programs, is or could be interfering with the game or update installation.

run the game from a admin account and use full admin permissions.

please make sure all game pre requisite are installed with the game, even if you think or fully know there are already installed, it will only over write, and it may be that you have a older or newer version of these where as the game in question may need a certain version.

please make sure you are running the latest game version and have up to date drivers installed on your pc,

here's my dxdiag report

In believe the game cannot use any memory above 4 gig, is that correct, because it's 32 bit. I made sure available memory was not a problem. After starting the game and allowing it to use all available memory, and to preload textures, it only used about 200 megabytes.

Scrolling itself is slow, but an associated problem is the mouse speed, or lag, between the time I move the mouse to the edge of the screen, and when the scroll actually starts. Perhaps the devs can tweak the mouse sensitivity(?) or responsiveness in the game.

I use Windows Defender.

I noticed mine using about 150 mb of ram as well. I'm going to check some other AGEOD games to see what their ram usage is.

I also did notice that precatching textures at the start happened instantly, where in other games on my system it takes like 10-20 seconds.

yes gwgardner, it does seem to appear the game again isn't using the card and instead is using the cpu/gpu

Check if Nvidia is set as the preferred graphic card:

Code: Select all

Open the Nvidia Control Panel and locate Manage 3D Settings. Change, in both Global and Program, the Preferred Graphics Processor to High Performance NVIDIA Processor.

Problem solved with the suggestion in another thread by Chrisleko to add an ecw.exe exception to Windows Defender. I have done that, and no longer have any scroll lag.

I didn't find that changing graphics card helped (I have three graphics modules from business to high end) helped at all. General.opt edit fixed the problem as per this thread tm.asp?m=4283289&mpage=1&key=&#4284412
