Old timer trying to get back in the game

It's been a few years since I last played and wow a lot has changed! So many options these days, mild winter, etc..
Been reading a lot of AAR trying to see how the game has evolved and make some sense of the game balance (I don't want to start a flamewar here) but what would
the experts recommend as settings for the latest official patch?

Hard to answer as it always depends on relative Player skills Standard seems to be either 2=1 or hard blizzard
No matter the settings, you can always slaughter or get slaughtered.

Well, from the AAR's I read, the Germans got a serious boost (not unjustified since last time I played), so the +1 attack makes sense with a mild blizzard. Especially with the new withdraw/counter attack rules. It's give and take and I want a fair match. No offense intended, but the panzer blob (with the reduced forts) is a serious game changer so the Russians will need some advantage in the blizzard to even the playing field. As long as it is not virtually impossible to get your units above NM (as was the case previously) you can still recover from a harsh winter offensive in 41 as the GHC. Off course it all depends on how things go in the summer 41.

I play a GC as Soviets, currently at turn 5 without +1 but hard blizzard at the moment and I the settings seem to be right. Counterattaacks are very possible, did 5 successful ones in turn 5. You have to set up them right: Good leaders, all units under 1 Army, best morale&xp support units+allot of bombing. But this heavily depends on how optimized the German turn 1 is. If you kill all good units in turn one with an extended-extended Lvov pocket, +1 will be required for successful counterattacks again.
Experienced soviet players repeatedly stated that you can completely exploit +1 but I am not experienced so I cant comment on this. However, you can ask Hortlund how playing a good Soviet player with +1 feels like.

Well, I dont think my game against Model should be held as an example of anything but my own incompetence really. It was my first game as Germany, I did not even know how to break down units ffs, while he exploited the game engine to the max, thats a really bad combination.

Given your turn 1&2 I think he could have defended further west so I think his defense was not completely optimized. He probably focused on preparations for the extremely successful winter offensive.

Oh, I have no doubt the Sov can counter attack without the +1! Still, with mild winter and the other changes I have found so far, and the +1 being removed after the first winter it seemed the best combination. Could be eating my words pretty quickly though [;)]

First of All Wellcome back. Settings depends in the skills of both sides. If the rus is Very good no matter What settings he will win. What side would u prefer to play

Only one or two German players can challenge the best russians and those who shall Not be named ( voldemort or moriarty) are no longer here

So please more settings in favour of the weaker player ( absurd when best russians ask for full blizz or plus 1)

I prefer (for both sides)
+ 1 => without bonus the game is a cakewalk for expert german players
random weather => uncertainty prevents lazy gameplay
mild blizzard => for a fun 1st winter.

I've played both sides multiple times when the game came out.
Just got back in the game and trying to catch up with all the changes.

That's a bit of a problem, how do you know who are the best Russian players? Or German players for that matter.
Player skill will always affect the outcome but you can't really know (when playing someone you don't know) until you play someone.
The only one Russian player I know from the start is M60A3TTS and I know he's damn good. All the other Soviet fanboys seem to have moved on.
No offense intended.
I do agree with full blizzard and +1 being too much though. I hate full blizzard as the German [;)]

Agreed. We're playing with these settings.

There are/were enough other players who were able to exploit logistics/design openings etc. comparable well judging from AARs.
