I am spending hours trying to learn to play this game. I read the manual, look at tutorials then go back to the game wanting to apply what i learned. It just doesnt work.

Examples: I watch the tutorials, everybody seems to have different tool bars. At least they don't look like the vanilla toolbar i'm using.

Things they do which seem effortless don't work if I try to copy them. The small toolbar that in one tutorial can easily be moved to another spot on the screen refuses to stay there, etc; etc

It is impossible to see if I control a unit or if it is the AI that controls it. Pressing on the icon doesn't appear to change anything. The icon does not light up or turns off at least not clearly.

There is also the DOW community Toolbar Link. It caters for all types of players. HITS, Birds eye camera, beginner, Grognard, etc

The toolbar is a community project and is constantly being improved. Everyone is invited to contribute.

Thanks for the help. My biggest problem is not knowing whether or not I or the AI is controlling a unit or commander.
The TC icons do not seem to react to my pressing the buttons. I would expect the button to light up when I take control and switch of when I return control to the AI (or the inverse)but they seem to be on all the time whatever I do. No visible feedback. It is not clear if my orders are sent let alone received. Is this normal or do I have a bug.
Again, I understand the concept that troops do not always do what you want them to do (that's what attracts me to the game) However, at least I want to be able to give an order.

I sent you the link via pm.

The reason is that the TB is still a work in progress. It has been heavily tested over many games. On and offline with no issues. Everyone who asks gets it. There will be a public link soon. We are adding music, maps and more formations.

I have tried all of the available toolbars and this is the best for me.

If you need any assistance then please let me know. We have a mature group of knowledgeable SOW players. We also have our own dedicated Teamspeak channel for voice chat. This can help a lot with trouble shooting and tutorials.
