Any thoughts on adding a Hotkey for Report Status! action when a unit is selected (maybe the 'R' key) ?

Yep, a few extra hotkeys would come in handy.

Vic's mentioned that there are engine limitations preventing this but he's taken the feedback onboard and plans to increase the hotkey functionality in the future.
