I am recieving an error whenever I click any options in the game. If I bypass the options and just click ok , I recieve the error on selecting a unit. I am running a steam copy, tried validating and uninstall and install. I receive the error in the regular install and tried the hotfix, 104.02, but I am still get the error.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear about the trouble and I suspect this is an issue with Administrator permissions as this screen is attempting to modify a settings file on your system in your USER folder and is unable to do so without the correct permissions elevation setting.

To work around this please try the following:

1) Launch your Steam client and then select the Steam 'Library'

2) You should now see the Strategic Command WWII: War in Europe game listed. 'Right click' on the listed game, and then select 'Properties'

3) Select the Local Files tab and then click on the 'Browse Local Files' option.

4) A file explorer window should appear and look for the game EXE called 'SC3-WWII War in Europe'

5) Right click on this file and select 'Properties'

6) Click on the Compatibility tab and then check on the option 'Run this program as an administrator' and then Apply followed by OK.

7) You can close the file explorer window and then go back to your Steam library and try launching the game again and hopefully this does the trick for you.

Thanks for the quick reply, however no dice, it gives me a "steam won't initialize error", and the game itself will not load. If I uncheck the admin box, it will run, but I still recieve the left click error.

Hmmm... Steam might also need to be elevated to Administrator priveleges.

Can you try right clicking on the Steam icon on your desktop and selecting Properties->Compatibility and then checking on the 'Run this program as an administrator' option as well? Apply and then Ok and then relaunching Steam by double clicking on the Desktop icon?

I tried, recieved the same error, then hit ok and got this error. Also installed my matrix version to eliminate steam as a possibility. I receive the same error. I trien admin compatibility on and off in both 1.04 vanilla and 104.02 hotfix exe. Left click error in all.

I uninstalled the game again and this time I reinstalled it without my Avast virus shields turned on and now it is working fine with 1.04 and 1.04.02. I turned the antivirus back on and it appears fine. No error. Not sure what happen, never ran into to that with steam, but avast must be blocking a script or something. I could not find anything in avast that might help. I will keep you updated if there is any change.

I would install the game and run it once with the antivirus off, seems to fix it. Then turn the AV on.

I am receiving the error and my game has crashed twice after the 1.04 patch. Never did before

Hi Jfarber,

My antivirus was interfering with the download, not sure what, there was nothing in the virus chest. I turned mine off, uninstalled and reinstalled, work for me.

Received the same error with V1.05

Hi Tom,

Can you tell me which error exactly you received in v1.05? I'm just asking for clarification as there are a few different error reports in this thread.

For example, was it in game or was it also at the OPTIONS screen.

Any extra information will help me to resolve this for you,

In game FAILED(on_left_button_down) error when moving a German Uboat.

Thanks Tom and do you remember if it happened after switching modes for the sub via the UI button to 'Set Mode', or was it perhaps something else like just a regular movement and/or you found a hidden unit?

If I remember correctly it was during regular movement and finding a hidden unit.

Thanks and I had hoped we resolved that particular one but this could be another version of a similar issue. I'll dig further.
