I was examining the MWiF map at a higher zoom level than I play at and I was struck by the Arctic highway in Finland. Specifically, the idea of having a highway to the arctic in the 1930's. So I did a bit of googling ...

... and came across this newspaper article from the Chicago Tribune on December 10, 1939 and thought I'd post it. It's just dripping with history at that time. Poland's been conquered, the Soviets and Finns are at war and the phony war in the west is in full bloom. I suppose most people were wondering, really hoping, that WWII was going to spread no further.
