Do rivers still flow through the middle of hexes, or can they be routed around the edges?

I'm pretty sure that has not changed from III.

Hi Ken,
Rivers still run through the hex and not the hex edges.

As you know this has been debated ad nauseam on this and other forums and good arguments can be made for either design. But at this point, it is a mute point, since a change in map design would require a remake of TOAW III scenarios (unless, of course, is was a pure desert scenario).

TOAW III scenarios, original and recently designed, are generally compatible with TOAW IV.

Looking forward you participating in the forum.

If river location were changed the code could be split. Since they would be making new code for hexside rivers they could easily leave the old code for rivers running through hexes. They choose not to have rivers on hexsides is all. And even if a new version had rivers on hexsides the old versions could still be used for the old scenarios. Again, they simply choose not to have rivers on hexsides. That's the long and short of it.

I think he meant moot point, not mute point.

Perhaps both would apply. [:D]

OK.

Please list the pages in the TOAW 3 manual describing the difference between a river running through a hex and a river running along a hex side.

There ought to be a description in the movement section, the attack section and the defence section of the manual.

Thank you
.

In TOAW 3 e-Manual:
see effects on river running through a hex (of course no reference to a river on a hex side since they do not exist in TOAW)

11.9.4 Movement Cost
13.9.6 Unit Strength in Water Assaults
9.1.3 Weather Effect including Frozen Water.

First, TOAW doesn't have hex-side rivers, so there will be nothing about that in the manual. For the effects of River hexes, just search the manual for the word "river".
