Quick question: when choosing a land action with an offensive chit in MWIF, does the game optimize which units have their value doubled based on the HQs rating, and then select them ? There is no sub-phase for the player to do this?im not sure the hand book states how the choice is made

You have to right click the units and manually select which ones you want to double up.
I believe you can do it in more than one phase - like during Movement (in case you need that for an overrun) and also in the Land Combat Declaration phase (remember to do it before to get in the Land Combat Resolution though!).

Surely the computer is not doing it for you - but it tells you how many units you can still beef up with the O-Chit.

Thanks ! That's what I thought would be the case- when in doubt right click! I think I was attempting to do it at the wrong time .sometimes.. I'll check the handbook again which I think says that you select the units without saying how but as in many cases right click is the answer to many things...

So for new players I was going to mention: the process for selection of the units which will benefit from the offensive chit is:
1. Select the offensive chit action during the chose action phase
2. Select HQ
3. During the execution of the action, right click on the eligible units you want to receive the benefit.
4. Select the "units" line in the menu- the flyout will ask you if you want to chose this unit and note the effect ie doubling in land combat. The flyout also shows how many units you have left to select from that HQ.

As noted above - just make sure you select the units BEFORE the combat resolution step. I was going to check RAW in this regard too (I'm on "vacation" at a resort without my computer so suffering a little MWIF cold turkey).

I am not completely sure that MWIF handles it completely as RAW is written. Although it seems to be the practical way to do it.

Cut from RAC:
16.3 Land action
If you play an offensive chit at the start of a land action, specify 1 of your organized HQs. You gain the
following benefits:
• you can double the combat factors of this major power’s land units within range of the HQ when you
calculate the final odds for the overrun or land combat
. You can do this for as many units in the impulse as
twice the HQ’s reorganization value. You can double the same unit in more than one overrun or land combat
but it counts against the total each time. You can only double each unit once per overrun or land combat;
and
• every land unit reorganized by that HQ only costs half the usual reorganization point cost (see 11.18.4).
AsA option 3: You can also double field artillery (see 22.4.2) combat factors for ground support or receive an
extra die roll during ground strike.

I had never particularly noticed that line in the rule before, thinking it obvious. I wonder if that line was not always in the rule, and some rules lawyer tried to grossly abuse the rule? [:)]

Luckily in MWIF ... MWIF is the judge and jury!
For new players: to recap: appropriate time in a land action offensive chit play to assign the benefit in MWIF is during the combat declaration step- just right click on the unit you want to get the benefit (I'm not sure the choice can be undone now that I think of it- but it's simplle in any event).

Right click and select "Unit" I meant to say...
