That other rifle in the photo is a nice 1903 Springfield.

I was honored that a good buddy of mine on this very forum took me shooting with him a couple times. Got to fire the M1 Garand and its cousin the M1 carbine. Both fun guns to shoot.

I've always thought the M1 would be a great weapon if you had to butt stroke someone with it too. It's got a heavy wooden stock that's designed to stand up to some serious punishment.

Not a collector's rifle because the parts have been mixed. But a fine shooter with a the bore in excellent shape.

Even if I had a class 3 license (unlikely while I'm residing in Mordor) and even if I could afford a real one , the ammunition is not yet being made. The company that made my rifle is trying to build a replica , 1st for 9mm and eventually (once it finds some one to produce the correct ammo). But for now , it's fun to blast away wastefully with 22.

I'm considering ordering the "Burp gun" replica they make for 22. It would pretty much close out my "Russian collection". Or maybe the MP-40-22 also made by them . (That unfortunately has a cheesy suppressor replica attached and is not removable).

An M3 "Burp gun"? That should be readily available in .45ACP, no? What does an M3 have to do with a "Russian collection"?

An M-3 was a "Grease gun", named after the tool it most resembled. The "Burp gun" was the name given to the Russian PPsh-41 , mainly due to the sound it made. I have several "puedo weapons" in 22. A 1911-22 , a M-9-22 . I have a "Thompson clone" , semi auto in 45 cal. And of course the STG-44-22. It absolutely looks Identical (I've seen one next to a REAL one at a gun show. You need to pull the magazine out and look down into it to tell the difference. Even the markings are identical. And the weight is within a few onces.

You will love it! It's fun to shoot , and the best part about owning it is the looks you get on the gun range when you pull it out. Everything from WTF! to RUN! But everybody wants to see it and ask questions. And your not risking a rare historical artifact every time you shoot it. [:)]

The history dept at West Point holds a WW2 shoot every year for the cadets, or did.

German, Russian, American, British...little bit of everything, full auto, etc., but the Carcano's are deemed too dangerous to shoot. [:D]

Ok, just kidding on that last part.[;)]

Had a somewhat spooky uncle in the 1960's who was a fan of Nazi memorabilia. When I was about ten he took my brother and I shooting. Some fun stuff-Luger, Broom Handle Mausers, and a Spanish Astra. But his pride and joy was a STG-44 and we got to shoot that as well. But only one clip each as the ammo was no longer made and expensive. My brother shot semi-auto but I figured YOLO and blasted off my clip on full auto. I will never forget it. The dude was a bit weird but I have to give him credit. He made sure my brother and I were fully schooled in firearm safety. Just like learning to swim, it is a good thing for young kid to learn.

I fired several WWII era weapons during my initial armed forces training, plus the then-current FN-1 assault rifle and FN-2 LMG (7.62 caliber). The Sten was inaccurate beyond 10 yards. The Sterling SMG was much better and I was good with that. The FN-1 was heavy and had a nasty kick, partly because I am short and the stock was too long for me (they weren't about to cut it shorter for a mere officer cadet!).

Haven't handled guns much other than my Remington Nylon 66 (.22 semi-auto).
Last Sunday my son unveiled his first rifle acquisition - a really cool Israeli weapon - the Tavor- that fits very comfortably from the moment you lift it. And the sight he ordered has a reticle featuring a tritium (radioactive H2O gas) reticle that need no battery to glow. Very cool. No chance to go range shooting with it yet.

For 7.92x33 ammo, you can make your own if you've the set up. I think Hornady or PriviPartisan made a run a few yrs ago so there might be some out on the gunshow circuits, you can occasionally find some Nazi era or Czech made postwar stuff. To make your own, I think it's using either a 30.06 or 8mm case & cut it then form it much in the way many use shotgun brass to make 577/450 Martini cases. I roll my own for mine partly due to what's commercially available isn't made for accuracy - 303Brit, 30.06, 7.5Swiss.

Privipartisan still makes it. But it's often hard to find. And the special handling fee is as much as the ammo it'self if you order it from the company.
