Does anyone if you can edit a savegame of an ongoing game to modify the Event Engine Variable?

You can, but it most likely won't be playable. This is possible normally for testing purposes only. The reason is that you have to save it as a '.sce' file in order to edit it, and when you do that the calendar will reset, which usually will cause other things to go wonky.
