Does anyone understand why Matrix Games offers a giant paper map to go with its Computer WIF game? What (if anything) do these things have to do with each other?

The computer version uses a different map than the regular paper version, so they thought that some people might want the computer version as a physical object. (They were right.) Regard it as a piece of art. It serves no useful purpose, but some people want it for other reasons.

Yep. Basically the global game map looks so good that there was a demand for a physical version. I have it and I'm glad I have.
Also, some people actually planned to play World in Flames using it.
Cheers, Neilster

...they just have to find a way to comfortably access all the surface area on a 9 ft by 27 ft map.

Possibly. Along with a high ceilinged-room, metal backing and magnetized counters, and a couple of those ladders that move in tracks and run on rollers, like they have in some libraries and bookstores.

You could purchase the standard size WIF maps, but that will still take some serious wall space. Otherwise, just look at a stationary store for a world map. There will be several.

I found this soft copy and downloaded it from another thread in this forum. I have just started to look it over to see how it differs from MWIF. I read that some tweaking needed to be done to the map for the computer game but I'm hoping this will help with planning.

There are lots of differences since the MWIF computer game uses a constant scale with all locations on the map. The WIF board game uses a different scale for the Asia Pacific and uses off-map boxes for many sections. That changes the strategy for Asia Pacific substantially. Look at China as an example. It takes less units to build a front for the Chinese and Japanese with WIF. With MWIF, there are large sections that can not be covered because of the size of the Chinese map area.

Changing the map without changing the force pools was not exactly a great idea.
