You just keep on learning. In a previous game I was complaining that when units are withdrawn from the theatre, they leave taking valuable combat supply with them, then I saw this :





German 2nd FsJ Division is going to be withdrawn in 6 turns and is carrying level 3 combat supply, as it is defending the vital port of NAPLES, which cannot be allowed to fall into Allied hands. Then I noticed the 'Combat supply' button in the 'Withdrawals' list, is this the way to reclaim the combat supply before the unit leaves ?

I don't know why I had not seen this button before and AFAIK it is not mentioned in the manual, but the following post shows the image of what happens next.

After selecting the 'Combat supply' button in the unit 'Withdrawals' list, the combat supply triangle on the 2nd FsJ unit counter goes blank.





In the 2nd FsJ unit info panel (on the right of the image) the 'Combat supply' has gone to level 4, when the highest game level is 3 (green triangle). [&:]

The overall supply level in the lower main screen info bar shows (7), it was (17) and a loss of (10) supply points, so now confused as to what this button in the Withdrawal list does, as it doesn't seem to give supply back. [&:]

The 'Supply and Fuel Status' panel shows supply consumed this turn as (10), so that equates to 3 levels of combat supply being lost, not regained.

When I cancelled this action, the unit went back to combat supply level 3, but the overall supply status only restored to (12), instead of (17), so (5) supply points gone for good. [&:]

Am I misunderstanding what this button does, or have I found a bug. A control to recover supply from units leaving the theatre is a very good idea, but it does not seem to be working.

The fix is, don't use the 'Combat supply' button in the unit 'Withdrawals' list, it is also good practice not to load combat supply into units which are about to leave the theatre.

Here is another example of the use of the 'Combat Supply' button in the 'Withdrawals' panel.




German 24th PzD is due to leave the theatre soon, the name text on the unit counter is red and the unit is listed in the 'Reinforcement Status' Panel, 'Withdrawals' list. When you select the unit in that list, there is info on the unit and a 'Combat Supply' button. The only sense in having this button would be to reclaim the combat supply before the unit leaves the theatre, but whatever it is intended to do, in this case it just messes up the Supply display at the bottom of the screen.

In the unit info panel on the right of the screen image, the unit's Combat supply has gone to Level 4, which does not exist in the game.

This feature is not WAD, it should be removed, or fixed so that Combat Supply can be reclaimed from units which are about to leave.

The above post is the situation when using the 'combat supply' button in the withdrawals list with a unit already on full level 3 combat supply (expecting that it might recover some supply).

Tried again when the unit was at level 2, to see what the button does and it added combat supply up to level 3.

So the combat supply button in the 'Withdrawal' list is to add combat supply, but why would you do that for a unit leaving and anyway this can all be done in the normal game controls. The combat supply button in the 'Withdrawals' list is superfluous, unless it is set to remove supply to return to the supply pool.

Either way it's broken, because in the second example, although it raised combat supply from level 2 to level 3, it still corrupted the supply pool figures.






So no big deal, the fix is, don't touch the combat supply button in the withdrawals list, but for the developer, this button could be put to better use, recovering supply back to the pool, before units leave. Historically this is justified as units would often leave equipment and supply in theatre, to be re-equipped before the next assignment.

With the 'Combat Supply' button in the 'Withdrawals' list you can just keep loading Combat Supply, don't know if it has any effect on the unit yet, but it certainty takes supply out of the supply pool, in this case up to level 6, when level 3 should be max.

Too bad you haven´t got any answer to this yet and that the developer seems absent from even answering questions. Have just bought the game and am enjoying it. Played the sicily scenarios twice as axis and the south italy campaign as Axis. Haven´t understood yet why certain units are allowed to be granted combat supply and other units not despite being in the same hex and both have not been given any orders.
