Demon Haunted World by Carl Sagan.
You won't like what you read in all likelihood, which is probably why you need to read it.
Honourary mention. Book 9 of the Sword of Truth series was quite an interesting statement. But you'd need to read the first 8 to get the full effect.
Love Letters by Debbie Macomber, and no, guys, it won't do anything for you I'm sure

But it opened my eyes to where my writing was supposed to be. 30 years wasted trying to discover what I really wanted to write as an author (I thought for a long time it was supposed to be science fiction), and then life put me in the right situation to realize, I'd always wanted to write romance novels. I write romance novels by the way.

Well now I know to read one of Colleen McCullough's books that's sitting on my shelf.
Besides the Bible of course, I would say "Landscape Turned Red: The Battle of Antietam," by Stephen W. Sears. Playing it in conjunction with SSI's Battle of Antietam is what makes it so memorable.
