At the SP Arsenal, I am trying to piece together a campain or series of scenarios on the Winter War and Continuation War. If any of our good SPwaw brethern from Finland can point me to some good maps - and good info - it would be a great help designing this series.

I am sorry tell that there doesn't seem to be any good sites with maps of WWII Finnish battles available in the net. Only ones that I have managed to locate are in Finnish books and even those are not that good (usually black-and-white map-drawings). I have planned visiting one special library that might have better collection of maps early next month and I have allso started making some maps (Portinhoikka and Ihantala battle areas from summer of 1944). If you are interested about Finnish maps just email me and we can talk more about this.

Indeed. I would like to do a couple maps myself but so far I've been too lazy to acquire physical material.

I usually browse the net first.
If someone
does find some maps, links would be appreciated.

Not on the net but a good book in English (heck I used it for part of my thesis) is:
Finland at Peace&War by Tillotson 1996. Outta print I believe, but still around.
If you have unlimited funds to spare you might wish to pick up GDW's "A Winter War" operational level game with EXCELLENT OOB work and a fairly detailed map. Believe it's still in print.

Thanks for tips and I'll look for that book. Any of you have a SPWAW map done of the WWII Battlefields in Finland?

A place to start looking for Finnish maps is
www.karttapaikka.nls.fi
The site is free (mostly), and it's also in English. They have maps of all scales, but unfortunately most of WWII battlefields are now in Russia. One exception is, however, and that is the battle of Suomussalmi or Raate road.

tzazatzaa!! Don't you remember Hankoniemi? Here were real infantry and recon operations during the war. And German aircraft JU-88:s bombed finnish ground, in Hanko, while russians had 25000 men in here against Finlands 5000. Fins had also volunteers from Sweden, which had 100 men, excellent morale and training, and very eager mind to get out in the 'russian' area for some action. Old posts still remain in the woods, pillboxes and bunkers. Btw. Russians had three (3) railroad-gun in Hanko, one of them is at st Ptersburg in junk yard and some enthusiasts are trying to buy it. For more info if interested mail
Mosh@mbnet.fi so I'll see how I can help.
