Aircraft units having mixed plane types

I'm playing TOAW III with James and I'm the Allies in
Operation Olympic 45
and I've run into mixed plane types in the same unit. I don't much appreciate
that. And I'm wondering if anybody else had an opinion. I myself would rather
be in full control of my escorts and my bombers separately.

Which begs the next question. If I send bombers to attack can I assign fighters as escorts?

As a matter of fact you CAN. And or sweeps, airfield attacks There are no night missions however. I'd like
to use night missions for some of my bombing missions. Especially into those airfields that have a
substantial CAP posted. Think Singapore in December of 1941. There you have the Japanese bombing in the face
of lots of British, Australian, and Dutch fighters.

What about night mission in modern scenarios?

Right now
TOAW IV doesn't have a dedicated "night" mission but there are aircraft that can
operate in all-weather and night missions. I wish there were a "night" mission but so far it's
been no go. I guess there are code changes needed for that.

Larry, I knew we could count on you as the flyboy in the crowd to take a hard look at the airpower. I must confess I just "wing it" (pun intended) in both design and gameplay. I think it is the first thing you look at!
Cheers

As a matter of fact when I start a turn the first thing I do is check out the deployment of the aircraft. Before any-
thing moves the CS and AS are to be there to protect them. I like to give my units every edge I can.
And about the mixed plane types: When you send a mixed group to do AS the bombers suffer. When you use the unit for
CS, the fighters are forced to escort the mission whether you want them to or not. You can't use them to do something
else....they have to go with the bombers where THEY go. I might have a valid need for some AS somewhere and I can't
send the mixed group people because the bombers will get shot down. You'd have to be there to understand.

After 4 goes at this game one would like to think that air ops would be MORE defined than that it is.
It appears from the what I have read the game engine hasn't change a lot in some areas.

Hey Larry, you and I fixed this scenario, remember ? Well, it was years ago so I guess the memory fades.

Sorry about forgetting about that, Steve Sill, is it? Sometimes I can't
remember my middle name. I'm forgetting a lot recently. I think it's my
medicine. But I don't dare quit taking it. We're going to see more
evidence that I'm losing my mind as time goes on I'm afraid.
