A few quick questions please on the scenarios:

Are there any naval scenarios for the Mediterranean?

The campaign scenarios - are they naval and land or just land?

Also, is one able to change unit/ship names in any given scenario?

IIRC there isn't a navy-only Mediterranean scenario, but of course most of them feature naval units.

You cannot rename units in the game. You need to edit the scenario in the Editor for that.

You can withdraw a unit and substitute a new unit (with a new name). I've done that a few times. But it has the problem that the old unit tends to exit in a battered state, while the replacement comes in all shiny and new.

Hi Tamas, sorry I am not necessarily looking for an all naval game. E.g. is there a Mediterranean campaign scenario or a Guadalcanal scenario where I can play land, air and naval units? Are air units represented?

I have a suite of Campaign for North Africa scenarios - mostly land and air, but some naval.

Someone did make a Guadalcanal scenario long ago - not included with the game. I can't say how good it was.

I have an Okinawa 1945 scenario that has plenty of land, air, and naval stuff. British Pacific Fleet included.

while IIRC there is no "whole WW2 on Mediterranean" scenario, almost all Mediterranean scenarios feature naval units, especially those that involve amphibious landing or naval transport.

And of course in general, if warships played a part in an operation, they'll show up in a scenario covering that operation.

And air units play a crucial part of course. They are on map units like the rest. By default, the Air Assistant assigns them missions, but you can change these freely, or just turn the assistant off altogether.

Air units can be assigned Air Superiority, Interdiction, or Combat Support missions, and then these are played out with varying level of abstraction, triggering land bombardments and air to air combats, based on the range of the units involved (and where they are based, obviously).

Okay so I've briefly looked at Campaign for North Africa 1940-43. I've not seen TOAW before so please excuse the very basic questions: Why does this start on 18th September 1940? and with the Italians on the Libyan/Egyptian border with quite a large (as far as I can see) British presence on the border? i.e is this not - at least at the start - designed to be historical? Just trying to understand some basic design ideas.

Thanks

I don't know the scenario off hand but some of these were done by the community over the years and included here because they were popular. You may or may not got a good answer as to why did the designer choose X instead of Y. Hopefully it was done by someone involved with version 4 so you can get a good answer but its not guaranteed

That's when Graziani invaded. The deployments came from the SPI title of the same name.

Edit: I guess I should say that's when the SPI title said he invaded. If he actually invaded a little earlier, it won't be missed in 242 turns.
