Directive 21 scenario settings

I don't see any mention in the documentation for the scenario about
- New Bridge Rules
- New Mud and Snow Rules
Should I have these on or off?

The scenario was created before those options were added to the game. You can set them as you prefer. The Mud and Snow Rules are not in the manual, but in...
C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Games\The Operational Art of War IV\Manuals\Whatsnew 4.0.docx (sorry, MSW).

VII. NEW MUD AND SNOW RULES:
If this advanced rule is optioned, when snow melts, it is converted to mud. Furthermore, mud dries out proportionate to temperature. (Cold: very little; Hot: very fast). This will facilitate the creation of mud seas. (This is not in the manual).

New Bridge Rule- [ON]
New Mud and Snow Rule- I would have [OFF]; the scenario was designed without this rule and given the length of the scenario, it could impact the balance of the scenario.

The Mud rule should remain off as I have events set up to deal with mud turns. I will have to look at the new rules for this for a future version to see if they should be incorporated.

So, does that mean that the manual for TOAW IV does not actually cover the complete rules for the game?
I'm thinking about buying the game, but that was exactly what was keeping me from really playing TOAW III. Not having a complete manual, and having to spend hours hunting for information in all kinds of docs and forum threads to find out how the game works with a specific scenario.

They said that after the manual was sent to print these new features were added.
This is the nature of the "beast", if we want the game to continue evolving the manual is gonna be partially outdated. The "what's new" document will contain the up-to date information. Always check that after every patch, or initial release [:D]
