Accepting a Challenge

I know this is probably a stupid question and I think I know the answer but just want to check.
When accepting a challenge I do need the password from the challenger to enter don't I?
I've had a few challenges but no PM's to let me know and hence no idea what the passwords are so thought I might be missing something.
