Strange behavior when trying to switch theaters

Alright, this isn't starting well, I'm afraid. I'm not sure, but I don't think this is supposed to work that way after reading the manual.

Starting with "New Game", then clicking on the directory button to switch theatres, I don't get an actual list of theaters, but only another directory button. Klicking that opens the folder menu, where I have to manually navigate to the scenario folders to finally get a list of scenarios in a folder.

im sure the file structure is WAS works as designed, but if a developer wish to comment on a reason why a given way was used etc, i'm sure he will, if it's a problem or causes an error for you, please reply back with more information to the post, thanks and i'll pass it on to the developer to answer

I highly suspect this is a problem with non-english Windows folder structures. TOAW might be looking for a folder in \documents\TOAW\scenarios..., but on a German PC, it's \dokumente\TOAW\scenarios or something like that.

agreed it could be, as that's what the developer is looking to sort out for in the first patch, eg non English etc

tm.asp?m=4379218

as per patch notes ^^

I have the same issue on my Norwegian version of Windows, as well as a few others (no sound, not possible to change resolution).

I'm investigating. Please post here if you're seeing the same issue along with the username on your windows machine.

One thing I've seen is that some of the people installed using a second administrator account.

That means that the folders were installed to a location they could access.

I'm still testing.

I'm seeing same issue.
I am using Windows 10 in Japanese, but my username is English.
However, I put the Document folder on oniveive.
In onderive, the Document folder is created with a Japanese name by Windows.

C:\Users\nagon\OneDrive\XXXXXXXXXX\My Games\The Operational Art of War IV

"XXXXXXXXXX" is "Document" in japanese.

Hello nagon, first post I see, welcome to TOAW!
ORIGINAL: nagon

I'm seeing same issue.
I am using Windows 10 in Japanese, but my username is English.

I can run TOAW in Japanese Windows 10 (with Japanese user name), with my user folder under Documents ドキュメント.
That works.
To select a scenario, navigate to the Scenarios folder, and there click on one of the subfolders with scenarios.

The developers are aware of the slightly different steps to select a scenario in this case.
The selection menus also may look a bit different (see examples in the screenshot) but it works.
So, we have more variation to do the same thing.
Also in this case perhaps there are no music/battle sounds but sound effects are played (on my machine).

I hope you enjoy the game.

Edit: Scenarios folder with s (was: Scenario)

Thank you, JPJ.

Yes. I'm also able to play by selecting the folder of the scenario directly, and I'm enjoying this game very much.
But I feel a little troublesome to select folders every time to change the theater.

I have never heard BGM. In addition, I have never heard any sound effects.

Also on Japanese OS like you, I also hear no music, but I hear sounds when I move units and resolve combat.
It may be different on your or my particular pc but just in case, be sure that you have all sounds enabled in
- Sound > Background > Music and Battle Sounds = On;
- Sound > Sound Effects > Sound Effects = On;
- and that Volume is not muted in Player Options.
Manual pages 13 & 30.
