Half rant, half questions

So I watched some videos of SCWW2 and I have to say the game greatly disappointed me with how simple it is and how slow the engine is to handle turns. The world needs more WW1 games though so I might give this a chance.

I would just like to know if the complexity will be bumped up to divisional or brigade level? This would benefit the game immensely. I lamented how you abstracted complex units to an "army", it makes no sense to me.

I hope the air forces will be redone completely as well, now they look like just extensions of the land forces, no real management there.

The ground units in Great War and Breakthrough are primarily corps (often with historical designations) and detachments. The use of detachments is interesting, because it seems to reflect limitations in the different countries' ability to organize and control additional units.

The handling of units has a very different feel in the two WW I games because defense tends to be more damaging than attack, so what you're usually asking yourself when you play it are who hasn't entrenched that should be entrenching, can I afford to spend the resources on another unit to make that open flank less open (big issue for the Eastern Front and the Near East), where are my heavy artillery units, and should I wait another turn to increase my stockpile of shells before launching that attack. Because artillery is so important you'll find yourself launching repeated attacks that can't possibly succeed against parts of the enemy line just to soak off your opponent's defensive artillery fire so you don't get hammered when you assault the real target right next door. In WW II games you tend to look at the map in terms of what real estate do I grab in order to launch an attack. In this game you often look at the map wondering where you can position a unit that will force the other side to attack it.

The air units in the WW I games have several different functions and don't really accomplish that much, but are probably over-powered. There's only so much damage you can do with an Eindecker, a machine gun, and a couple of hand grenades. But having said that, once you get past 1914, the portrayal of the air war feels a lot more believable than what you get in the WW II games.

I guess you misunderstood something.

SCWW1 is a re-release of an older game (first released at Battlefront.com, several years ago, not a new game where anything might be redone or "bumped up".
