Mediterranean Tsunami - NATO side

This is the original version, first posted, of the scenario.
The setup looked fairly easy.

Immediately at start, I returned all aircraft to the carrier, and reloaded all Super Hornets to AARGM, and the rest variously to CAP and JSOW. While reloading, incoming aircraft and missiles were handled by SAMs. When CAP was ready, I launched jammers and AEW and waited for AARGM loadouts to ready. I kept no ASW patrols, but set sonars to active on CVBG.

Also, I adjusted WRA on my SAMs to only fire at no longer than 50 NM at aircraft, to avoid them going after distant Russian CAP.

At this moment, stats were as follows

After a while, Russian SAMs started to go after my CAP flight, so I slid a little to the west. That was not enough and they got one of my CAP aircraft. I was just on the border of the range so I slid little further west and also moved CVBG west to make sure landing pattern is outside enemy SAM range.

Then, probably a sub fired Sunburns at me, caused CAP to proceed eastwards to engage, and lost me two or three more CAP fighters to enemy SAMs. (note to self: on replay, ditch CAP completely, just rely on SAMs).

At 18 hours to go, AARGM shooters are ready. I fire TLAMs and at the same time launch 20x F/A-18 AARGM shooters. I turn them loose by setting to engage opportunities, and direct them in afterburners in general direction of the airbase. I expect these will also take care of any enemy ships. I still have about 60 TLAMs for the follow-up strike.

Now, this ends in an utter and complete failure, because ships suck up all ARGMs - I end up spending 40x AARGMs with a result of sinking 2x Tarantul. Uh oh.

TLAM strike is much more successful, and there are no enemy SAMs left to speak of; I also expect the airbase to be damaged to the point of no air threat, so I turn the CVBG north-east to close range and establish ASW patrols in earnest.

Now waiting for reloads - AARGMs and JSOW/BROACH.

Oh carp, I forgot Typhoons. Now, loading Typhoons with laser-guided bombs. Check cloud level high enough to allow lasing targets.

At 13:30 to go, engaged Moskva with Harpoons, fired 8 harpoons and sunk it. After that, fired 4x Harpoons at Krivak, sunk it with 2 and almost hit some neutral warship with the other two. Luckily Harpoons ran out of fuel before reaching him. Now as there is no anticipated need for much SEAD, rearm some AARGM shooters with JSOW.

Still no submarine detection at 11 hours to go. Now, routine mop-up operations start, by using JSOW/BROACH and various LGBs as soon as I can reload.

At 8 hours to go, firing TACTOMs against various remaining buildings, mostly AvGas and ammo bunkers. Also sunk a sub by ASW helos at about 9 hours to go, with no big fuss.

At 2 hours to go, there are no more targets.

Final score 2520 Triumph, and final death toll is

Possibly but more likely you grabbed this while engaging the Kilo.
1x Dolphin II [Type 800 Mod] <-- no idea what happened; not likely I did that

One of the Kilos got her, note she expended 5 MK-46s and a decoy. Also note a Kilo was lost (1x PL-877M Kilo ) and you didn't report and ASW action. So must have been an interesting subsurface duel and judging from above the IDF might have fired first. That is why the neutral vessels/boats are in the scenario to potentially get in the way and in the real world the IDF and other nations aren't going to sit it out in their bases, they are going to patrol and S*** happens!

I think it might sound wrong to have a players penalized for a neutral loss from another belligerent but think about the opening day of a new world war, Fog of War and both sides are going to be pointed to for neutral losses. Look at MH-17 and the finger pointing back and forth. Yeah we knew a BUK did it but there still was the revulsion over the civilian losses world wide

One of my better coups as the Russians was when I got the CVBG between two Kilos. One was west and one east. The CVBG detected the one in the east and tried to evade west right into the waiting western Kilo. First I sank San Jacinto and then put 4 (of 8) torpedoes into Ike. Then with Ike down to 5 knots the eastern Kilo got in a few hits sinking her. It was something like a 7000+ point Russian Triumph despite loosing my Airbase and my squadrons soaking up American SAMs. Loosing the patrol boats/FFL is a given.

Nice AAR. Personally,

I "shoot (radiate) and scoot" with my Hawkeyes...

1. Radiate for 10-15 seconds and get a look
2. Hit the deck and travel at right angles to likely Growler tracks
3. Move AEW box to new location
4. repeat

So one of the things I struggled with is is the SA-400 Regt in Syria an 8 or 12 TEL system and how many reloads. Open source Intel is mute on that point (at least free open source). I settled on 8 as it is overseas and an 8 TEL Regt is easier to transport. Now one could make the case that after the American TLAM strike they may have a 12 TEL regiment there and may have bunkers with reloads. So I will upgrade the battery to 12 TELs and some reloads.

Also I reduced the number of ZSU-23s at both Tartus and Khmeinen and will upgrade those as well.

Bottom line the CVBG/CSG can get inside the SA-400s launch cycle but 12 TELs would make it more challenging.
