Played Granada and it tell me when I plan an attack when I have less then ideal troops to fight that the probability for heavy losses is great, yet I still push them back and win with them having the greater loss then me.

I'm not sure exactly how this works. As you say, sometimes you are told a battle will go badly but it does not. Sometimes you are told it will go very well and it does not. I think this is Fog Of War. You don't really know how a battle will go as it progresses.

Fog of war and McClellan type G2 officers... always overestimating the enemy (see Peninsula Campaign)...
