I am getting this error message when trying to make a post on the TOAWIV forum, even though it does not contain any links, emails, or phone numbers.

I suppose I'll have to post a couple of messages elsewhere - like in this thread - to get to ten, and then I'll have to wait a week to ask my question about the game.

Sorry about this. It's ironic, isn't it? They have this anti-spam measure, which gives false positives and thus forces people to post a couple of spammy messages to get to ten posts...

agreed, but it does stop the spammers to a point, so works but yes also stops others as well so is a double edge sword, but most post here and get it sorted, as they only have to do it a few times, apart from the date / time element etc

Oh, I certainly understand the need to stop spammers. Although I am amazed that spammers would even try to post on a forum for grognard wargames. I mean, it is hardly a mass audience, is it?

Anyway, having posted in a couple of "What are you watching at the moment?" threads, I am now at ten.

point about most spam is they want the link to another website, that in turn boosts their search ratings as one criteria is how many cross-references exist.

so they don't really care what the host website does, any link will do

when Vpualus (staff) see it, he / they normally alters your status anyway most of the time, so it doesn't apply etc

It happened, years ago. To counter the spam storm Matrix was forced to introduce this policy and the "I'm not a robot" filter. At the time I was a lurker, not a poster (I still had to buy my first game from Matrix) but we weren't talking about the stray spam post: the fora started suffering from a mini-deluge of them. Quite annoying. Now the spam posts (crosses fingers) have all but disappeared.

if your seen in time, you will be added to the safe list, if you wish pm the details and what you wish to post and i can always do it for you until your sorted etc? if that helps

SPam has been and still is a problem so sadly this sort of thing is necessary.

Maybe some new system where by the new member can prove not a spam bot is needed?

Definitely still an issue. We have at least one spam thread right now on this page.

This is VERY annoying. Just trying to share information and tips in other posts in this forum is too restrictive. Why doesn't this system just use a captcha to verify a human is posting?? Can I PLEASE be approved to post links so that I can share information on this forum regarding CMO? [&o]

Note there is quite a bit of stuff on the Steam forum for CMO, I'm sure people here do visit that forum, but I tend to ask questions in both forums, so being able to share a tip from Steam forum, would I imagine, be beneficial to people here. Captcha please.

I hate those captcha boxes with the numbers and letters, half the time you can't tell them apart. Or clicking on the squares of the crosswalk as a picture over and over again. Pain, probably the best one is when they ask you for example 3+1=
