I note that bombers can be used in the air superiority role.
I am happy to set fighters to "air superiority".
Why would I set bombers to air superiority?

Don't, unless you want an easy and clean way to kill your bomber crews in a purge

Still, some scenario have the annoying habit of having different types of planes mixed into one formation. What do we do with an air unit comporting fighters and heavy bombers? [:(]

Easy... like mixing Tie-fighters with Tie-bombers; you adjust the range to the fighters in the group; which should (in theory) take care of acting as escorts. Alas, you still can split them in separate units (in the editor though).

Changing the range won't solve that problem... designers should avoid mixing different kind of planes, which could be difficult in bigger scale scenarios where you have to deal with Air Divisions/Corps.

Or in naval scenarios where AFAIK carriers can only have a single air group.
