I like the German Streitkraefte and Strategien but it's German language.

Other, traditional news outlets have decent coverage but only occasionally as it's not the main focus (like the NYTimes article about the patriot not being able to shoot down the scud missile recently.)

Any recommendations?

Also what sorts of books/resources would you recommend for reading up on history, developments, tactics, doctrines etc.?

Top of my head as I just read some earlier, defensenews.com and connected publications.

For naval matters, Information Dissemination (http://www.informationdissemination.net/) is one of my favorites. They're weak on Air Force stuff, but they're good for Navy and some Marine Corps stuff.

I have seen the thread, but the sources seem of mixed quality. I am looking for something to either introduce me to something or to keep me updated, like something you can check time and again, if that makes sense.

If you want podcasts, I highly recommend CSIS's Russian Roulette. It's focus is generally on Russia and Eastern Europe/Central Asia, but they talk about defense issues frequently. IMO, their analysis is competitive with what I've seen professionally.

I like visiting military website for the latest tech about defense.
