when creating OOBs etc. from scratch, make use of Notepad++ and the old Editor from Andy.

Klink, Oberst

Does anyone know who this Andy is that O. Klink refers to and where his Editor is? Can't seem to get a reply from Klink. Evidently 'Andy's' OOB editor is much better than the in game OOB editor. [&:]

I understand he made a scenario viewer and a equipment editor. Maybe there's something else

Ah. That's who Andy is. I have the equipment editor. Thanks to Bob Cross it's no longer needed. I think the guy that made the TOAWIII equipment editor (Andy) made a beta scenario editor but most of it wasn't functional. Maybe that's what O. Klink is talking about. I'll have to dig around for it. I know I have it someplace. Thanks. [;)]

Found it. Under limitations it says it doesn't do much of anything. Doesn't even do a decent job of creating an OOB. [&:]

Equipment editor yes. Oob editor (Force Editor), uses the old crusty one from way back. [;)]

It's not the installer and be aware you need to have TOAW III in order for
the editor to access the graphic files. Alas, I will get in touch with Andy and ask him if he can provide the installer version again.

"This does not appears to be a valid scenario file"
"There is no REPLACEMENTS section in the XML"

And if I open a TOAW IV file there's even more error messages. Not sure if I want to jump through hoops or do yet more work on an OOB with several thousand units when I can do it at one time in the old crusty editor.

What is really needed is the old editor sent to the scrap heap and a new one enabled that looks like something from this century. [;)]

Hopefully won't be much longer for that.

Jack,

as stated, you need to have TOAW III; once you dump JUST the .OOB, NOT the scenario .GAM or .XML, it saves a lot working on OOBs. I will try to do a Tutorial 'XX series with slides of my Alter Egos Klink and Klinkovski, OK?

A bit harsh, I think. Consider over 20 years of time and over 1,000 scenarios designed. Wish for something new and you might get something like what we have with unit color and icon design [:(]

Nah. Just something that does the same thing but more efficiently. [;)]

Well let me know how to make this work. All I've ever been able to do is load an oob into the viewer, never the editor. It looks like it might make things easier. I still have half of AGC, and everything south of that plus German air and navy, Axis allies and all the Soviet stuff. So about a bazillion units. Oh, and all of the reinforcements and the German army not on the East Front.

I wired Andy and asked for the installer. I hope he'll somehow adjust it to TOAW IV... I am more than willing to surprise ye'ole editor wizard with a pressie he can download from the MG site :D

You are aware though that you can use the editor for the project you and Nigel were working at. The .OOB etc does work; and even with Notepad++ it's child's-play.

Well yeah except I can get an oob loaded into the viewer and say, oh my that looks nice. But I can't get it to load into the editor which is what editing is all about. [;)]

Hi Klaus,

I had a bit of problem getting on my Webspace - 1&1 had gone SFTP on me so my previous connection details didn't work...
The editor download link is as follows:

Editor...

It got stuck at beta because I needed Ralph to fix something in a library he supplied to me way back when so it could natively read .SCE files properly and that was one of the times he went AWOL [:(].

I'll be buying TOAW IV (it's on my Xmas list) and then I shall re-visit it to get it working again.

Was anyone able to get this to work? I am unable to open any files or create any files with it just yet.

Please be a tad more specific. As per my earlier posts, I'd just use the editor to create/edit/modify .OOB files. DO NOT use it for post TOAW III .SCE files. I use Andy's editor to do my OOBs, create .FORCE .UNIT .TOE files for my library.

I was trying to create an OOB with it. I do not have TOAW III so that is probably why it is misbehaving.

Yes, that's the issue of the matter. Alas, Andy (I hope!) will work on an updated version. Now, you did have a look at how to use Notepad++ or any other XML editor to create an OOB? It's doable. I mentioned it in the Tutorial '42 - Editor sandbox scenario. It's a learning curve, no doubt. But once you got the hang of it, one of the best ways to create/modify an OOB.
