Just finished the Kharkov 1942 scenario against AI. I noticed the Russian tank losses are quite low, even when attacking against dozen's of 88mm guns, they lose 2 or 3 tanks. Otoh I saw a Russian infantry division with hardly any AT capability attack a German Panzer regiment (fully resupplied and rested) in clear terrain with good weather and retreat the Panzer regiment with more than a dozen tanks lost. What am I missing here?

In order to understand what happened, or to confirm some game flaw I guess more details are needed. Checking the toawlog.txt, posting a save, etc.

Superior weapons are fine, but their success depends on the guys who crew them, their state of readiness and...well, the weather, and more.

There are so many things that explain results like that, as others have already referenced. There is no clue what your actual situation is. Did you get attacked with a flank attack? Did you note that the Russians use artillery and/or air resources? Were you low on readiness, supplies, or low proficiency? The russians you attacked, did you flank, have artillery/air, have good status, and so on. Did the planner report poor or good results to be expected? What was the ratio it reported? Of course I've had good results when it reported bad because of gut feelings, and poor when it reported good due to randomness, but in most cases its close to the mark. Experience counts more though.

It goes on and on. Yes, there is some randomness, but overall, good strategy/tactics with an eye on all your forces will give results expected. At least, from my experience. Don't trust type of equipment to see you to success, trust combined arms with all your units working together. This is an operational game, not tactical. Of course, you already know that and I'm just being preachy. Sorry, I'll blame senility.

I finished the campaign, so I do not have a save of that turn. Anyway, thanks for your help. Next time I see something strange I will provide more info.
