NordKapp

So I found this little gem called NordKapp. Time period is mid-1980's, WWIII has broken out in Europe, game focuses on a Soviet invasion of Norway in an attempt to capture ports and airfields. Game last 10 turns, 16km per hex, Battalion sized units.

I got the map and the counters but no documentation. Does anyone have the game and can scan the rules? I mostly just need set up and reinforcement schedule.

I'm going to try to convert it to TOAW IV. Game scale is 48 hours per turn since TOAW does not have 48 hour turn only one day or half-week I'll do one turn per day making the game last 20 turns.

For the Soviets, maneuverability and supply will be their biggest problem, for the Allies facing a larger force with tanks!

I think this would be a fun small game that can be played fairly quickly.

Sure thing, Magnum... attached the .PDF as .ZIP. Whenever in doubt, ask the Kraut ;)

AND, it has half-day turns already.

Talk about prompt service! Looks like the original TOAW scenario and probably even the boardgame lack realistic naval invasions which you could improve on. USSR had at least one brigade of naval infantry just waiting to pounce on Narvik. Perfect scenario idea to represent the new naval warfare stuff.

I agree this looks like a fun game. The TOAW COW game is not quite the board game, it's 5km per hex and half day turns with several additional units. I want to design a game more faithful to the board game. I may need to purchase the original Strategy & Tactics game from EBay.

I haven't played/tested the scenario and I am kinda known for being... shall we say, not a Navy person either ;) But hey... if you need a 'ferret' to dig out some old scenarios, the Oberst is your man :D

Nordkapp is GREAT. one of the best TSR era S&T games that was ever done. I did a module for it in Zun Tzu a couple years back. Still a great game.

Wow - will deffo be following the progress of this, time-period and location very interesting material for a scenario. Will be happy to test once it's upgraded to TOAW4 with added features, although I'm not a very experienced player :)

The game included in Strategy & Tactics #94 has some interesting game variables. There is the possibility that Finland and Sweden will remain neutral. Finland has a 40% chance to remain neutral and Sweden a 50% chance.

The game makes the argument that the Soviet's may ask Finland and Sweden for transit rights. Sweden and Finland may grant this request because the Soviets would only cut through very small portions of the country and there are not significant forces in the region to begin with.

OK, but how realistic is that? The game takes place in the 1980's and I'm not sure how pacifistic the governments were at the time. Is the variable just a cool twist or a real possibility if the Soviets applied enough diplomatic pressure.

I've seen claims elsewhere that there was a secret agreement between Sweden and NATO that would've had the former joining in as a co-belligerent of the latter in the event of a general Warsaw Pact invasion. No idea if the person claiming such had any idea what he was talking about.

Finland's a more interesting case. On the one hand, only the main event being in Germany would prevent overwhelming Soviet force from rapidly overrunning the entire country. On the other hand, after the events of the late 30s and 40s I suspect the Finnish govt would have very large fears that if they let the Soviets in that they'd simply keep whatever they temporarily occupied to attack farther west.

Hey we're still peed off at the Swedes for letting the troop trains through during the war. So I doubt they'll do anything that stupid again. Although, you never know with the Swedes, man... [8D]

I never understood the animosities - after all: https://da.wikipedia.org/wiki/Den_svensk-norske_union... you are like... cousins for Pete's sake. Kinda like the Germans, Austrians and the Swiss, no? The Nordic Wars of 1700s are over, Stian, no?
