Nordic ventures

I recall elsewhere in the forum the pros and cons of a German invasion of Norway. What about Sweden, in terms of remaining neutral? There doesn’t seem to be much of a reason for either side to conduct an invasion of Sweden- Germany for obvious reasons. And by the time the soviets could, either through a conquered Finland or across the Baltic, the three resources in Sweden are probably not worth it. But maybe to grab an objective point re:Stockholm? An invasion of Sweden through Narvik in Norway might be tempting too. But it would seem to be an unnecessary digression for the USSR...?

I have seen the Allies go for Stockholm late in the game to increase their VP total. Even using the A-bomb along with a huge paradrop in the surprise impulse.

But this is a very artificial construct caused by the victory system and is just crazy versus history. Sweden is very hard to get at until late in the game due to the Baltic being closed and USSR builds out its land forces and does not spend for sea lift, especially since that expenditure is likely needed when USSR is just starting to come back on the Eastern Front. Otherwise the sea lift arrives after the game is over.

Sweden has a very powerful army for a minor country so the USSR or Allies attacking from the Arctic region will be bogged down long enough for Germany to send help (if even needed).

Germany has no need to attack Sweden since it is getting their resources anyway and it would be a pointless slugfest.

Right - probably far better “bang for buck” for the USSR to concentrate on taking out the Swedish convoy chain. I recall as well that Sweden has lots of convoys like Norway or Greece and these would become active under a DOW too.
