We won already against Carthage during the First Punic War. We have decimated their fleet.
How could the son of Hamilcar Barca is expecting to defeat the Empire?
If the Empire is attacked, the Empire will strike back... Euh no, we are the Republic, the good ones.
Where are my generals?

The conflict seems imminent. The Ebro Treaty that we have signed with Hasdrubal, that had taken command of the Carthaginian army in Spain after Hamilcar Barca's death, is about to be broken.

...
I might be misreading your attrition choice (while since I played AJE) but it looks like you have put the AI on too high a level (by checking the third box), I'd suggest take the worst attrition for yourself (its easy enough to manage as a player) but if you impose that on the AI it'll collapse.
Could be wrong [;)]
anyway, great to see this

You are right. I have selected the option for both me and the AI. As a newbie, I want to improve my odds [:-]

Knowing a little my history, Hannibal will cross the Alps to invade us. Several strategic towns in Cisalpine Gaul are threatened like Mediolanum and Placentia.
I do not trust the Gallic tribes of northern Italy. I fear an uprising once Hannibal will show up.
My main problem is that there are no roads between Arretium and Placentia. Reinforcements may arrive too late to support Placentia.
We need to build some roads.

At this stage, I have option to build three roads only.

Again, off memory, but you need to get that Illyrian revolt ended before Hannibal turns up.
I've always had to use my siege cards to get the breaches, its relatively easy to maintain supply in the summer (a fleet offshore can take used supply wagons and refill them).
If you don't I think it spreads and might bring in the Macedonians early ... something nasty happens anywhere.
Sensible to do improvements, its a long game and you need the money/manpower

Thus, I am building one road in Gisa and one in Aquinum. 24 turns to go, hoping Hannibal won't be there before...

I also need to improve my cash flow to finance my legions.
I have four merchants available. I am sending them this turn in Emporiae, Agathe, Massalia (ah Massalia...) and Antipolis.
I need Denarii.[8|]

Agree I am investing for the future but Illyrian pirates is my priority now.

Roman fleet is in Brundisium ready to embark the two legions of Paullus (Legio III and IV) and their assets.

I am ordering the fleet to go to Sena Gallica. Next stop: the Illyrian beaches...
