'C' key - see the hotkey list and Tutorial '41... start there up until Tutorial '45. That will clear things up, trust me.

Thanks. 'c' is cool !!
Otherwise I'm not good at learning with tutorials. I don't like to follow directions. I definitely prefer to play freely as I wish and ask questions when there's something I don't get. It's my way ... :-)
Afterall, isn't it what forums are for, at least partly ? [:'(]

Of course, we're all here to help each other...
I figured lots of things out by myself and by browsing and asking questions on the forums...
I also follow the wise words from our beloved chairman[:D]

I think that the RTFM policy is a very bad one for the publishers because one major factor of success for a game (particularly a new one) is to have a very active online community. Motion creates emotion ! So shaming people who didn't read the manual from page 1 to the end is discouraging newbies from asking questions, hence reducing the community activity, hence the popularity of the game. This is the best way to kill a forum and a ... game. IMHO
So my motto would be : ask all the stupid questions you want as long as they are related to the game (no off topic).
Voilà ;-) [8D]

I love reading manuals. Not only it works as a kind of warm up for the actual playing, but I really need to know what is going or I feel like I'm just pushing counters. I remember having bought an hex based game called "Allied General" in the 90's, having read the manual and never actually playing the game. Yet, I can see your point. People have diffent approaches to games. Nevertheless, I think most of the time, the RTFM attitude refers more to "search the fucking manual", after all CTRL+F can do miracles.

On the other hand, I really have to agree with your "strategical" point of view - "motion creates emotion". Today, games live as long as their their online communities. When I want to see if a game is still alive and still worth my effort, I visit it's forum. If I notice that the last post has 10 days and average interval between posts is large, I know it's dead - for the moment, at least. Visiting the ASL forum, we can immediately see that the game is still alive.

Keep things moving by encouraging trivial questions (or even repeated ones) may be the way to go. In fact, RTFM can be translated as "don't waste our time with unnecessary questions"; a meritous attitude had we hundreds of posts daily and the obligation to answer, which is not the case. I just disagree in one point: an old game is much more dependent on the "movement" of its community than a new one, which still has some impetus from novelty.

I was able to notice, for instance, how the patience of Herr Klink, when pointing repeatedly to his tutorials on the most basic questions, is doing a lot to to "sponsor" activity in the forum. Even if just a couple of people place questions, the number of views beside shows that a much greater number visit the threads (even if considering that repeated views are counted). Forums must be kept alive; it must be part of developers marketing strategy. Just consider that one of the most specific characteristic of humans when in groups is the concern with the perception of others about himself. Not placing questions so as to not feel stupid can be observed overall.

As I understand it, there was a dose of humor in the RTFM use in this specific thread. But I have already seen it stated in a more scolding way in other threads.

Pardon my prolixity and shall those who disagree excuse me.
