Downloaded the base game the day AFTER, the big sale ended...grrr...Anyway are there any scenarios that work on just the base game or do I have to buy one of the expansions to do anything other than the tutorial?

Yes, you've to purchase one expansion in order to access multiplayer and custom scenarios.

I have played the base game and I think is pretty good, but unfortunately no Random Map Generator. So I did not buy any expansions.

If "Random Map Generator" is synonymous with "Skirmish Mode," yes, that has been on the drawing board for quite some time now. Well, you can lead a horse to water... by continuing to purchase the DLC that they offer... and hope that incentivizes them to keep improving the game. In more than one aspect, I might add.

I hear you. A Battle/Random map generator would add so much more replay value to this game. It is sad, because this game has so much more potential. I know a lot of other people are requesting this. Until that happens, I will keep on playing John Tillers Campaign Series.

It's funny you mentioned John Tillers Campaign Series. I loved that game, still have it, and think about going back to it whenever I get down on OOB. It's just that OOB outshines JTCS so much that, unless one gets upset by OOB's rough edges, sloppiness, and lack of progress, it's hard to really get back into JTCS.

Well, I hope you will stay in touch with OOB and see if it measures up in the future. I see that you have been on the Slitherine OOB forum (just yesterday, in fact) so that is the place to get up-to-date information and to participate (influence? advocate? for improvement?) if you wish. This forum is snoozersville most of the time.
