I read a recent post on Liberty or Death and it got me thinking about a game I played all the time called Panzers East. I looked at this website and it has thumbnail pictures of the old games. Wow, look at those top notch graphics!

By the way, what emulator is easiest to use? I might want to try a game, wow, so many emulators, I just want to try some of the old war games.

I used to play this one as well, good SIM on middle east

Greetings demyansk,
Thanks for posting as it brings back memories of those old Avalon Hill games.
I played their Under Fire on my C-64. Reminded me of Classic Squad Leader board game and Up Front card game.

Hey Rommel,

I had that game as well. I really liked those old games more than all the new stuff. I was just fascinated that I could play a war game against a computer anytime I wanted to. I must have put hours with SSG War in the East game. I sold the Commodore and some of the games for 100 bucks. I still have the SSG of MacArthur war, Rommel and a few others. Fun stuff.

Go to www.lemon64.com they have emulators and a large selection of Commodore 64 games to download for free.

Greetings demyansk and Auchinleck,
I subscribed to RUN 5 by SSG and played every C-64 title they put out. I loved War in the East and the original Battlefront. The Civil War battles were also excellent.
I also have used the Lemon C-64 package at times for a retro blast.
I fondly remember the Cinemaware title Rocket Ranger and trying to save the world from nazis invading America.
The SSI offerings were also great.

Yes, fun stuff, I still have a bunch of run 5 magazines, I think, wow I better check. I know I have a bunch of the wargamer magazines I think by Novalogic? I'll have to check that as well. I used to like creating the scenarios from run5 and then playing them.

I've been playing all these fancy new war and strategy games and recently went back to SSG's Battles in Italy. I was amazed at how good the AI is in that game. Much better than some we play today. Have we made so little progress in 13 years?

I will play Kharkov next. Only problem is the editor is tough to work with.

i love the old games from AH - i just got boxed version of Achtung Spitfire last year - i love it, could play its missions for hours, endlessly replayable especially on the advanced settings

Isn´t Achtung Spitfire a game by "Clash of Arms Games"? A J.D Websters Fighting Wings Series.

Iam recently getting into some GDW (Game Design Warkshop) games. I bought "Sands of War" and the two first Assault Series modules, "Tactical Combat Europe 1985" and "Boots & Saddles", all three by Frank Chadwick. I find myself buying/discovering alot of old games lately and really having fun!

Here´s my latest unboxings [:)]

Oh I see, it´s the PC version. I have both from Old-Games.com (no CD needed). Something similar would be "The Few" (Steam).

Yes so Iam aware that some old Battlefront soft had this issue with copy protection on newer gear.

Thanks E.

I was looking at the files I have saved on my HD from when I paid for a month of access to Old-Games. Not that I saved alot of them because I came to the same conclusion, craked versions among some abandone-ware. Actually I only Installed "Start Trek Fleet Command Orion Pirates", yeah the name is a coincidence [:D] Then I just tried the rest of interest, OTR worked as a DOS-Box Emu so there was no need to install that, but none of them stayed on my HD anyway. I have/or had a working DOS-Box of FC2 on my HD somewhere..

Hopefully something "new" will hit our PC´s with this gender soon [8|]

Meanwhile I try to play GG´s Eagle Day to Bombing the Reich, but even with the recent mod it´s very slow, it reminds me of when I used to use a typewriter [:D]

Have you tried the "WarBirds" series modules? Tabletop but probably the best air combat simulation for a boardgame out there today (Tim Simo is in the group with us too). Steve is working on a new module, and just recently put up the new WB-WWII v1.1 Beta rules which fix some minor issues with the original rules. It´s Print and Play, but even just to see the mechanics of the game it´s worth it. If you do decide to print, it will cost you as if you bought a new boxed game (there´s alot in there) be advised!

Ohhh, your missing some fun here....

I think your gonna love it!
Warbirds GS:
http://www.warbirdsgs.com/Home.html

So far Steve has put out WW-I (Canvas Falcons) and WW-II (Blitzkrieg) modules, I think he is working on the Forgoten Wars module now. I only have the Blitzkrieg module. You also get a Vassal module with it. Comms with the group are done via Yahoo, files via Dropbox/Onedrive. It´s a one-man-team (don´t we seem to love that [:D]).

I didnt print it out at home, I brought the files to my local printing shop on a CD, because there´s quite alot of charts/manuals in the WBGS.

I kind of forgot it because Iam not playing it anymore, but here are some great mods (active community) for SFC2-3...

http://www.dynaverse.net/forum/index.php

This is the mod I used for SFCOP:
https://hotandspicyforums.com/starfleet-command-orion-pirates-2500-2563-hd-patch-t18934.html

Works just fine with W10x64.

This is for SFCOP...

In your original install, you need to mod the sfc.ini file as follows:
- Change the "Asyn=1" to Async=0

Once you install the above mod, go back to your sfc.ini file and mod as follows:

(3D)Lowres=? in other words, add the nº that maches your resolution...

0 = 800 x 600
1 = 640 x 480
2 = 1280 x 800
3 = 1366 x 768
4 = 1440 x 900
5 = 1600 x 900
6 = 1920 x 1080

Lastley change your "StarFleetOP.exe by choosing "right-click .exe Icon" and switch to 16 bit colors compatibility.

Have fun!

ah so if i add teh Orion Pirates expansion to SFC 2 then that may help to get it working properly on windos 1064bit which is what i have? I will have to look for a copy of Orion Pirates.

My other thought will be to just have a Virtual pc setup with XP running on it and play it through that (which is what i may need to do for SSI's Fighting Steel too)

Orion Pirates is a game on it´s own, that I now of. I worked just fine on my Windows 10x64bit with the mentioned mod and tweaking. You can get Orion Pirates at Old-Games, that´s where I got mine.
