What is your favorite air warfare board game, and why?

Richthofen's War... It was my first air war games and it has a cool campaign system for Bloody April.

The best: Over The Reich / Achtung Spitfire (both board and PC versions) / Air Superiority / Air Strike / The Speed of Heat. The latter releases have become a bit too complex for my tastes-
2nd place : Air Force / Dauntless / Sturmovik + Expansion Kit: wide selection of aircraft, quick play, reasonably accurate.
The worst: Air War (SPI) requiring half an hour for a move lasting a few seconds [:(]

Fight in the Skies and it's successor Dawn Patrol. Especially the latter. DP added role playing.

Interesting selections. Some I was not aware of (Fight in the Skies/Dawn Patrol).
Whistling death from the Fighting Wings series has been left out, and nobody has mentioned any of Terry Simo´s games althought besides "Bloody April", Downtown and Elusive Victory are more operational.
Flight Leader has also been missed and Birds of Prey (Ad Astra Games).
Iam on the fence with The Speed of Heat, although I like the airframes in Air Superiority more but then I would need Air Strike too for ground target play. Birds of Prey looks quite neat but no ground targets. Iam looking for a simulation, instead of a game so J.D Webster´s games or Birds of Prey seem to be the most sim-like.
There´s nothing wrong with "book-keeping", pilot reaction is VERY short in RL so to reflect that in a board game time length is at most 15 seconds. Which means you do have to look/plot alot of charts which resume 15 seconds of real life pilot reaction. I understand that some like that, and some don´t, and rather play a game like simulation with less flight dynamics/instrument/armament simulation.

Wings of War/Glory, Bloody April, Warbirds: Canvas Falcons, Battle of Britain 2 (PC game).

Thanks Wodin!
I have Warbirds: Blitzkrieg, just waiting for Steve to finish the v1.1 rules. I also have X-Wing which is the Star Wars "Wings of War", Bloody April is on my list for someday, as well as BoB-2. Blue Max would be the board version of Wings of War/X-Wing.

Aces of Valor (Print and play) WW1
I really like this one designed for solo and not very complicated,

I may add Thrud Ridge at some point.

I have Bloody April, Elusive Victory, Warbirds: Canvas Falcons and Wing Leader: Victories. These are my favorites but have to admit that I tend to play the Tutorials or a small scenario over and over then sit and read the rule book.
If it's simulation/accuracy you want I find the Warbirds system hard to beat.

Thanks Jack54, I´ll have a look at those. I also have Elusive Victory, and yes Warbirds is sim-like but not for the jet-era yet [:)]
BTW Battle of Britain 2 WoV IS ONLY FOR US CUSTOMERS! It was once stated in the product page but not so now, so I figured you could now buy it if you lived in EU now. Well my bad because I bought it and the S/N dosent work! Matrix should point this out AGAIN in the product page! Not everybody is going to look into the forum before they buy a game, which is the ONLY place it states that this version on Matrix is only for US!

I will quote myself [:D]
Matrix support sent me a new installer which fixed my installation issues that seemed not to have anything to do with buying from Europe.
A big kudos to Matrix support!
Thanks!

Well, if you think about it, you get two games in one sort of. You can fly and use it as a sim, or you can use the commander view/option and play the map...
For those who want to see how the commander option works:

Luftwaffe. One of the first board games that I ever purchased. I think that there was an update by another company as well.

I loved most of these old board games. Has anyone tried 'Check Your 6'? Its really a minis game but it's coming to PC. Sounds and looks similar to the play style of Airforce/Dauntless.
I will be giving it a go when released in March 2018. I will be looking for opponents. Here is the link:

The Speed of Heat. Complex but fun, pretty too.
