AV and CS air operation also changed in new patch?

17) Carrier air unit operations are now halved when in a base hex. This simulates their inability to operate near land. The impact should be that for carriers in a base hex only half as many planes will fly as would otherwise have flown had the carrier been in a non base hex.

So, now carriers' air operation halved when they are in a base hex. Is it also applied same to AV and CS?

AV have to be anchored in order to operate a/c, so this should not affect them. I haven't played the Japanese enough to know how the CS ships are handled.

i thought i read somewhere that AV cannot launch aircraft. (in other words operate them). they just give extra support. i think you have to transfer the scout planes to the base in order for them to fly. isnt this true??? also, AV can be docked or disbanded in order to do this right???

US AV units are just extra support for float planes. The IJN AV units operate their own planes if anchored plus provide support for other floats.

I believe AVs can support air operations in port or disbanded.

My apologies for using poor wording. AV do just lend support to seaplane squadrons (thus a base with only a single US AV unit would have 0+18 support - the 18 signifying support for seaplanes only). You cannot transfer a/c to the AV, but rather to a port where it is anchored (thus I believe that it can be disbanded, I'll test that soon).

Japanese AVs and SCs

UV does not understand Japanese AV and SC concepts.

The AV could be used in two different roles - as a seaplane carrier (able to operate planes at sea) or as an aircraft transport (unable to operate at sea as she is overloaded). In the former role she has only about half the planes as in the latter (typically 12 vs 24). As a transport, of course, they can carry floatplanes OR landplanes.

The SC can be used in three different roles - as a seaplane carrier or as a transport for midgets or as a landing craft carrier. She can operate planes at sea in ALL these roles, but only half the number of planes if the lower deck is full of midgets or LCMs. These ships are wonderful transports, and should have HIGH transport values. They can, in fact, launch landing craft or midgets at near full speed, unlike our LSDs which have to stop and flood down to do so. [They have narrow gage RR tracks on sloped decks. The same system is used on the navy designed, civilian manned, army transport shinshu maru, and similar army ships].

Japanese AV and SC can LAND seaplanes while UNDERWAY using the Hein Mat system. I have a photograph of it in use.
