Close Combat: The Bloody First is the latest title in the critically-acclaimed Close Combat series.

Originally planned to be built with the Unity engine, the team decided to switch to Archon.

Steve McClare
has been interviewed by Polygon about this (and others) decision.

"The Close Combat series was first launched back in 1996 and it’s always had a purely top-down perspective. Players take the role of a small infantry unit commander and issue orders to their soldiers in the field. Morale plays a big part in every engagement, as do principles like command and control. If you push your men too far, too fast, they can lose contact with their leaders and sometimes even the will to fight."

There's not a definitive answer yet, at this stage we can't be too specific. We'll keep you updated as things move forward!

Hi Daniele,
Do you know how many units maxium by side, please?

Hi,

It is a tricky question, as the word "unit" could mean multiple things. Is it a single soldier, a vehicle or something bigger like a squad/team?

By the way, here there are some numbers I hope could explain better the game forces' composition:

There are 12 types US companies and troops represented in the game (each made up of multiple teams in battle). But note, for example, these include 3 Rifle Companies, one for 1942, one for 43 and one for 44.

32 German companies
6 Italian
All of the above can be reinforced by multiple types of different vehicles and support teams

In battle there are
Approx 120 different US infantry and weapon teams (but many are only slight variations e.g. HMG team with leader and HMG team without leader etc.) and approx 30 different vehicles
Approx 150 different German teams (as above) and approx 30 different vehicles
Approx 35 different Italian teams and 5 vehicles

Hope it helps!

Cheers,
Daniele
