Thank you Ivan, I completely forgot that today is the day!

I'm currently working on adding ordnance/AFV smoke to the game, player's part is already done....working on AI now.

Cheers and thank you everyone for your support! :)

Happy 2nd anniversary!

Many thanks to:
- Peter [&o] for this game, for his dedication and his patience [;)]
- Jorgen, the all-important man in the shadow [8D]
- Rico, who turns out scenarios like T-34s and keeps all of us happy without ever becoming a pain (pun intended [:D][:D][:D])
- Big Ivan, who makes few but nasty scenarios, sleek, elegant and deadly like a Panther [;)]

and to the rest of the community as well!

P.S. I would have liked to send a birthday cake, but I have not yet been able to take the Bread Factory [:(].

I discovered TotH at the first anniversary and I've been playing it at least 2 times a week since then.
The nostalgia of ASL and already knowing the rules made TotH a very easy buy for me. Thanks Peter, for
creating something special.[&o]

2 years , time flies.
It is an adventure.
Thanks all for enduring my random babbling over the last 2 years :)
It may be a small community but I feel it is one that shares Peters vision.

for me it`s not just a game you move pieces on ,
It`s the history , the unknown soldier , the unknown battle.
The scenario that mentions a soldiers deeds , people I have never heard of ,
a battle over a Russian town that no one can pronounce .
Look through the scenarios , there is an incredible amount of information if you want to look for it.
well done Rico , not just for your scenarios , but for your naming of participants , it gives me a name I can
spend many hours looking at .

Rico honored me by calling me a Reporter in the TotH Organization so here I go telling a little story of life and days gone by in honor of Tigers on the Hunt.[:D]

Many years ago back in the early 1970's I started playing a game called Panzerblitz. I was 15/16 at the time. Just from the content
within that game I learned so much about the war between Germany and Russia. It dawned on me that I was born a mere 9 years after that war ended
and that a company came out with a game about it, neat! I continued to play Panzerblitz and read more and more about the East Front in WWII.

Fast forward a couple of years and a game called Panzer Leader hit the shelves mid 1970's. Wow this one is a bit better than Panzerblitz and it centered
around what was going on with the western front of WWII. I still continued to play both those games with my friend and continued to read everything I could find
about WWII in Europe.

Never being totally satisfied and thinking a better game has to be coming out dealing with tactical combat in WWII. Well to my surprise Squad Leader hit the shelves
and I picked up my first game. I played all 12 of the scenarios with my friends over and over again and we started designing our own situations. We were all so in love
with Squad Leader we forgot that Panzerblitz and Panzer Leader existed.

Fast forward a few more years and Advance Squad Leader hit the shelves and it was like heaven in a box!! My Wargaming friends and I played it constantly, wore out
sets of counters and ordered more. We bought all the modules and boards and had hours upon hours of fun and relaxation! The timeline is the 1980's and personal computers
were in their infancy.

But as the years dragged on my Wargaming buddies one by one disappeared pursuing other things in life and having other more important responsibilities. I to walked
down the same path with a career and marriage. Wargaming had to take a back seat so my boxes of games collected dust on the shelf.

I thought Panzerblitz, Panzer Leader, Squad Leader and Advanced Squad Leader are so cool will they ever make a computer let alone a game that you could play on it
and be all compact without needing tables, trays, playing boards, card stocks and dice. Oh well, maybe someday!?

Well in the 1990's computers caught up and the first game I bought for my home computer in 1998 was East Front. Wow this is like Panzerblitz on steroids!
Then they came out with West Front and it to was like Panzer Leader on steroids.

I forgot about Advanced Squad Leader long ago and played my new computer games into the wee hours of the morning when I wasn't busy with real life.
Then a system came out where you could play a turn based game be e-mail, how cool! I tried looking up some of my old gaming buddies but alas life had taken them
all in different directions and none of them had time for gaming any more. I found new friend in new Wargaming clubs on the internet and playing by e-mail was on.

But still I thought we have Panzerblitz and Panzer Leader on the computer but where is Squad Leader and Advanced Squad Leader? I believed in my heart that someone
has to be working on these games so that one day they can be played on the computer. Well one day in 2015 a forum caught my eye about a game called "Tigers on the Hunt"!

As I began reading that forum that one day I thought could it be? is it possible? is there a person that did the unthinkable and made a game similar to Squad Leader and
Advanced Squad Leader for the computer? Well I'll be, almost 30 years later it is a reality, someone did it, they really did it!! Someone made a computer game close to Squad Leader and ASL.

There was a man with a vision and his name is Peter Fisla and yes he did it and its so damn close to what I played 30 years ago with Squad Leader and ASL!!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart Peter for your vision!! Enter Tigers on the Hunt! The circle of my Wargaming life is complete!!!

Wow, what a story! Man, I almost had a tear in my eye in the end :D

The challenge of getting true ASL computer wargame on the market is the fact that before you even start you will need to pay ASL electronic license, I'm guessing around $50K - $80K USD. I'm not even sure how one would go about getting an ASL electronic license since I have no idea who is the actual owner, Hasbro? So now you are -$80K USD in depth already without even writing a single line of code. Now you add developers, art designer (or two) on top of that, no clue how much money would that be on top of the license cost but at least as much and probably lot more. Now, would the computer ASL actually look like the boardgame or would be like a miniature game in 3D like say similar to Combat Mission? If you go with the actual board game look (like say VASL) then who is going to buy the game like that? I don't think these days teenagers will be the target audience as they don't care about ASL at all, so that leaves mostly the hard core wargamers with age 30+. At the end of the day unfortunately the target market is just not big enough to actually make it a worthwhile to make a true computer ASL wargame. Even if we go with different graphics game engine, example something like Combat Mission, I'm still not sure given the complexity of ASL (just look the size of the core rulebook) it would make a difference. The biggest enemy of ASL, is ASL. The rules are just too complex, from my point of view.

Cheers!

Peter

I took a little comp time from work this afternoon and thought for the moment I had my fill
of the new Campaign Series Middle East (you guys know I'm a CS guy) so why not write a little about my Wargaming life using
those great classics I mentioned and the computer games of today. It struck me odd that I have gone full
circle so to say being a board gamer from long ago and today I have everything compact on my laptop. Very convenient!

But the caveat is those computer games today are so similar to what I played long ago, they really are!

The more I look and play your game Peter the more I digress back to the 1980s. What you say about the
licenses make perfect sense in todays world. Cash wise one would be big time in the hole before the
first code was written. Enter your vision "Tigers on the Hunt" and bottom line, with its playability and
mods to make it look somewhat like ASL, it definitely works for me, hands down!!

After I wrote that I decided to play one of Rico's masterpieces "Desperate Measures". I'm playing as the Germans
with very hard difficulty and into Turn 2 and having a good relaxing time.

Will I ever pull out ASL again with its 1000 counters and 4" thick rule book? Not sure I have the intestinal fortitude
to make that happen but maybe someday. I'll never say never.

In the meantime I have your game Peter and that fills the void just fine!!

Cheers!

Tigers on the Hunt is ASL inspired wargame. I stared working the project in January 2006, for the next 6 years it was just a personal hobby project. I worked on it in my spare time (after coming home from my day job) or in between my day jobs/contracts. Then around 2012 I approached Matrix Games/Slitherine just to see if they were interested to publish it. An agreement was reached in 2014 and then it took about 2 more years to actually get the game out. I didn't write the game to to be rich/to compete with other wargames on the market, I just wanted to share my creation with the wargaming community - I definitely didn't do it for the money. I understand that the game is not everyone, though it's nice to see there are few people that really enjoy what I did...that's all :) I can't ask for more...

Cheers!

Peter

Even my story is very similar to that of Big Ivan. I started cn Stalingrad of Avalon Hill, followed by PanzerBlitz and Panzer Leader. Then, in 1977, I switched to Squad Leader/ASL, though not with all the modules. I have already said it before, but finding a similASL on the computer has made me move and return to the time of the dice on the table. I am also a model maker (plastic and wooden sailing ships), so passionate about history. Unfortunately, today the boys are no longer interested in the classic wargames, and the audience of TOTH is certainly over 40. Always a great THANKS to Peter hoping that he continues to periodically update and improve this wonderful game.

With me it was Panzerblitz, Panzer Leader then Squad Leader, too. I also played a lot of other Avalon Hill games: Battle of the Bulge, Afrika Korps, Waterloo, Russian Campaign, War at Sea and Victory in the Pacific.

I miss those old board games.
