game hang and pop up window showing to extreme left

Hi,
I've changed to use 2.7.0 and when a window pops up for decisions (combat resolution, etc) it shows up to the extreme left instead of over the map or the window with file-command-info-view-interface-window-help. Most of it is actually off-screen. As a result of this (I think) after I drag it right the game is often freezing totally. Is there a way to get the window layout saved with the pop up window coming over the map or the file-command-info-view-interface-window-help window? I have tried loading a screen layout that I have saved after dragging the window over from the left (it doesn't freeze every time only about half the time) but when I load the screen layout the pop up windows keep coming on the left anyway.
Is there anything I can do?
