Choose Coral Sea
Choose Naval Air Combat
- All US as Fighters
- Almost all JP as bombers D2A1 as fighter

After select Aircraft (happens to both JP and US) to land, it is not possible to get any further.

Unable to save at this point, so using the previous Axis Autosave. I was not able to save during the Air Combat, so could not get much closer.

There was no problem with Clearing - just aborts with a CVP landing.

I could recreate without problems.

Yes, 2.8.1 is broken. I encountered the same bug. Even through the "end phase" button is green and the CVP has landed back on the CV Glorious, MWiF is frozen. No matter where I click nothing happens.

Game turn at the start of search. Closest save I could get to the game breaking bug.

Here's the die roll sequence that got me to this crash/game hanging. The crash/game hanging is repeated in 2.8.1.

I was able to work around only be using version 2.7.5 to fight this sequence.

By the way, for this combat sequence neither side reacts any additional air units and the RN uses their 2 surprise points to reduce their expected damage (or risk).
