Where is the enemy? No Spoilers

Post by Okayrun3254 »

Just wanted to post my experience with the Fog of War. My air recon has not turned up anything in a large area, and I have a feeling there are enemy formations hidden from my view, so that brings up tough decisions. Do I use a formation to just protect my flank and supply line, or do I use all formations for a all in attack towards the victory conditions? I think I will use a recon screen, and keep a formation in reserve just in case!!

I don't know which scenario you are playing, but as a general rule, I recommend a reconnaissance screen backed by a flank guard of regiment/brigade-size positioned on the flank you feel is most threatened. If two flanks are threatened--then a reconnaissance screen and a regiment/brigade-sized flank guard on each. Maintain a regiment/brigade-sized reserve to either reinforce or exploit the success achieved by your main attack; or to blunt attacks to your flank(s). Good luck.

Thanks for the tips. It can be a bit tricky in desert warfare with so much open space. I am also getting more familiar with terrain features for defensive positions. I am playing the Battle of Sollum as the Allies. I am trying not to reveal any spoilers about the scenario. I have to say I am really enjoying this one, especially after watching some of the tutorial videos and getting a better handle on the nuances of the game. I am currently reeling from an attack from the AI. I left a infantry battalion exposed alone with hold orders and was overrun by the AI. I noticed the AI has also started probing on my flank with Recce units. My plan was to cut the enemies line of communications, but so far easier said than done. One game feature that come to mind is a type of reserve setting, where a unit is put in that mode to respond to movements and attacks. I think this might be a nice enhancement.

Interesting idea. Perhaps (during the Execution Phase) a unit with no orders could automatically move to a nearby hex that contains another friendly unit of the same org that was attacked...
Will have to think about that.
Thanks,
Brian

Yes, exactly. This is a feature in some games that I have always liked.

Wow, Not meant to be a AAR, but I underestimated the AI and paid the price. I need to read up on the Shock feature.
