'What if?' Campaign Idea: Iraqi Freedom '49

Here is an idea I thought I would throw out for the experts hereabouts in campaign design: what if Saddam Hussein ruled Iraq in the late 40s, and the Coalition of the Willing went into Iraq to depose him in 1949, rather than 2003?

The campaign would probably be best designed around an armored spearhead with Infantry and atty support moving North into Bassra and on to Bagdad.

As the campaign progresses, one would expect to move from facing regular army and militia at the frontier to better armed and trained Republican Guard units around the cities and inner Iraq. I think this would make a very interesting campaign.

If I knew more about setting one up, and map making, I might take a crack at it myself, but don't think I could do it justice.

I hope someone will take this idea and run with it. It could be a very interesting campaign!

Oh, and air support should also be included, as weather permits.

I thought briefly about this, an alternate universe scenario would be very nice. Give the Iraqi's renamed Russian weapons and it would work fine. If no one has done it by the time I finish my dam capture fight, I'll tackle it.
