Is there a way to change rules mid-game?

Title. Accidently set the rules improperly, and would like to not have wasted a good portion of my life. It is a pbem, not a server game.

There would be times it would be useful to change rules by mutual agreement of both sides - but not an option apparently.

AFAIK no - asked before
I was just able to change option settings in a saved game vs AI. If you're playing the AI, go ahead and try. Select Administration tab -> Show Game Options screen (shift + g). Screen accepts value changes, but Can't guarantee game won't crash or that changes will actually overwrite options already saved in the game file.

Yes, only in games vs AI you can change options mid-game.
