I own just the basic game, and have DL a few of the user created scenarios ; How can you tell which are campaigns? Do you have to search each one for the answer? thanks

When in the scenario, check Scenarios Attributes under the Status Menu. The Box for Campaign Game should be ticket.

Unless the author put some reference in the title, there is no way to tell a campaign from a scenario: you have to read the description file.
As far as I know, besides the Kursk and Normandy DLCs, only one or two campaigns have ever been made. I remember a US vs Germany campaign set in 1945 but I cannot recall how it was named.

Correct!
In addition: the Scebario Attributes Dialog should shows day/night cycle icon. The official campaign games have “CG” in their names that you see in the scenario list manager window in the game.
