[FIXED B998.10] Possible bug on aegis system

Hello.

I was playing the "Green Tide" scenario (Standalone folder) on Command v1.14 (Build 998.8) and detected a strange behavior:

One of my ships, a Bazan (spanish aegis frigate) started firing missiles at a salvo of incoming vampires. At first there wasn't any problem, the 2 first missiles are being guided (the bazan have only 2 illuminators) while the others follow while waiting for an illuminator to be available.

But then, after same impacts the aegis starts to guide the last missiles on the queue, while the firsts go through the vampires blinded.

I did a bit of a test with the editor with a ticonderoga aegis cruiser defending against a salvo of missiles and the results where similar, with a lot of sam missiles being wasted.

Savegame is adjunted.

Thanks for your time!

Hi... just a thought, could you limit the number of missiles fired at any one target using the WRA screen?

Cheers

Hi!

The WRA was already configured for 1 missile per target (the default against subsonic missiles)
The problem is not of an excess of SAM's fired but that the frigate is guiding SAM's that are still far from their targets while the ones already close are going through theirs without being illuminated.

I tried to include an screenshot to show the problem but I'm not allowed to post images, sorry. Not sure if I'm explaining the issue correctly (English is not my first language)

Yes I see what you mean...

It illuminates targets for the first 2 missles fired, then keeps firing blind missles unitl the first 2 hit there targets, but then doesnt illuminate targets for the next 2 missles in flight it fires another 2 and illuminates the targets for them, making all the missles already in flight useless...

looks like a bug to me...

I'm seeing this with Japanese aegis destroyers as well, the first couple missiles are guided successfully but the rest go blind instantly/

Ok I loaded the save in the editor, updated it to the lastest DB v474 and game version 998.9 and the missles and aegis system seem to be working better, as in the illumniators are illuminating for the next missle in flight rather than letting it go blind and waiting for another one to be launched ... there is still some missle wastage but less than in the previous version of the game and DB...

Didn't noticed there was a manual update.
I updated the game to build 998.9 and updated the save to latest DB, and also tried another bit of test with the editor but I didn't notice any changes... the last SAM's fired seem to have priority and the ones already in flight go to waste.

Thank you anyway!

Thats ok, I have ran the save game a few times and it seems to vary alot, sometimes the SAM missles knock a lot out the sky and in some they dont and there is alot of wastage, I wonder if the devs could have a wee look...

What is interesting is the Perry frigate has one illuminator and only and launches 1 missle at a time, I dont know if its because its not aegis or its not VLS...

The Perry launches only one SAM because it's the default configuration of the WRA (one missile per subsonic guided target)
Out of curiosity, I installed an old version of the game (v 1.12) and there the aegis works perfectly, with the targets being illuminated as the SAMs reach them. Must be some bug introduced along the way.

Ahh OK thats why the Perry is behaving :-)

Im sure the devs will fix the Aegis/VLS issue when they get the time...

Cheers

On manual weapon allocation the system seems to work as intended. When it's attacking targets autonomous there seem to be the problem. I've attached a savegame

Well, I played around a bit. The AEGIS modeled ingame seems to work best with less missiles in the air - the more targets that are engaged simultaniously, the more problems there are with terminal guidance.

There is indeed an issue. Basically weapons with datalink + TSARH guidance (e.g. SM-2/Aegis) are evaluated for illumination/blind throughout their entire flight instead of just in the last few seconds where terminal illumination is really needed. This meant that all weapons except the very first few in an AAW salvo were blinded and thus did not receive targeting updates.

Fixed for the next update release.
