Playing AIW #3 last night I was very impressed to see that the Israelis were actually retreating from their ambush of the Iraqi armor. I looked at the scenario in the editor and even looked at the lua file for clues.
But how the devil did the scenario designer get the AI to behave like that?

I'm guessing the AI is going to the rear to protect exit hexes? I could be wrong, but since there are no Vic hexes forward, as soon as the IDF spot an enemy unit, they first fire, but then scoot to deny access?

I wondered if that was what was happening. If so thats a very elegant solution. Im just still very impressed that the AI "understood" it should shoot, fallback, and reengage.

I'd wage the scenario is about AI protecting Exit hexes, as none of the AIW scenarios have Events taking place in their *.lua files IIRC.
We've just added the means to give commands to formations via Event Engine, so that will be available from now on, starting with CS Vietnam 1.0. That capability will be then introduced into CS Middle East in its first post-CS Vietnam UPDATE.

Some events would be great for these, I pretty much easily cleaned the AI's clock in this one, due to the AI leaving armor rears and such exposed everywhere.

So did I but the ambush and retreating from superior numbers to hide and reengage is a valid tactic. ie the AI wasnt wrong.

It basically means... Berto is doing a helluva job with the .lua and AI. Glad he's not working for SkyNet!
